UPDATE ON THE MACHATON MALES !!!
At the begining of june pondoro posted some info and photos of 3 males that they thought were the river pride males.a few days later they said "these three males are not the River Pride males we thought were (after not being seen for some time) but are actually males that we are not familiar with."
I was able to ID only 2 of the males by looking at some old photos and comparing wiskkers and scars etc...one of the males that pondoro saw had a scar close to his right eye exactly like one of the machaton males who had the same scar for many years.after comparing the wiskkers of the first male and the 2nd male with older photos i was 100% sure it was indeed at least 2 of the machaton males .as for the 3rd male i couldnt tell who it was couse the photo was not good enough to compare.so i asked some of the guides in balule to send me photos of the 3rd male if and when theyll see the males next.
About 10 days ago Karl van der Westhuizen sent me clear photos of the 3rd male(right side and left side of the face),and after comparing with older photos it was indeed the 3rd machaton male.
Im not sure as to where the 4th machaton male is couse in the last 2 months or so there were sightings of only the 3 males In balule as far as i know, and it is most likely that the machaton males were the ones who had the fight with the big mohlabetsi male recently although no one actually witness the fight.
The photos below are of the 3 machaton males old with recent.
Thanks to Karl van der Westhuizen and Johan Adolf Smalman for the photos and help.
