There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

"My most memorable Cat (and Warthog sighting): Lioness vs. Warthog, Sabi Sand circa 2000. During the floods of Feb 2000, a Lioness caught our Idube Game Lodge camp warthog in the riverbed in front of the breakfast deck, and a 45-minute battle ensued, with all the entire staff compliment gathered on the deck, much like a bunch of Romans at the Colosseum (except everyone was rooting for the pig). The Warthog beat off the Lioness, this photo being the defining split second in the fight. He survived for another six months, totally blind, no ears, and became immortalized in the Story of 'Samson the Great', as the local staff named him after the battle."

Is there any more information? I mean did these animals disperse and/or lioness injured badly (too)? Beat off sounds for me, that these animals dispersed to lick their wounds. Even if so hat off for this warthog :) Pity that it was injured so badly though :/ I mean when killed and eaten it is one thing, but when surviving blind to prolonged suffering, it sounds sad. But wildlife is wildlife.

I actually found more photos, looks like the one in your posting is just before lioness had enough and went away. Here are other photos. Not sure about specific order, but obviously the one where only warthog anymore there on the place is after that what was in posting of luipaard.

Edit: On one chinese site it was written, that lion finally turned around (picture of luipaard) and run away and left warthog there in water, red from blood of that warthog. That was all I could find more about that incident, pity that not able to find original and more detailed description :/
