There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Bagheera was completely correctly called "panther", because during 19th century "panther" was one of the names of the leopard. At those times official name of tiger was - Felis tigris and lion - Felis leo, now as you can see they have different names. Later, during the 20th century zoological nomenclature changed and word "panther" became obsolete. Obsolete doesnt mean wrong. But in 19th century when Kipling wrote Jungle Book this name was compleetely acceptable in scientific circles.
