There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.
The weeks seem to pass at a rate of knots here at Kirkman's Kamp, and whilst there have been many incredible sightings, there is one which seems to stand out as our Highlight of the Week!
We all know nature has to take it's course, and animals often die of natural causes, as was the case with an elderly elephant bull last week. For 3 nights, clans of hyenas fought over the remains, as vultures waited patiently in the trees.
It seemed that the hyenas had hit the jack pot, until the early hours of the next morning, when a male lion came charging in to claim the carcass as his own. This sent hyenas scattering in all directions 'cackling' and whooping as they bolted. He was followed by a second, then a third, and suddenly there was not a hyena in sight as the Marthly male lions claimed the carcass as their prize.
What an amazing sighting for the Kirkman's Kamp guests, and their guides alike.
