A black panther has mauled a man to death in a brutal attack at a private zoo in Russia.
The victim, reported to be a zoo keeper, was mauled by the big cat after unlocking the entrance in an attempt to feed it.

The unnamed victim, who is said to be Ukrainian and in his late 20s, suffered multiple bites in the attack, which also saw the panther escape.
The escape sparked a major search which lasted for several hours until the animal was recovered.

The private zoo, situated in Obnovlenny Trud, a village near Moscow, has had no other reported incidents and has other big cats, including a lion and tiger.

According to reports, its owner Sergey Knyaginichev denied claims the man was a keeper at the zoo instead saying he was a visitor from the Ukraine.

The Investigative Committee - which deals with serious crimes in Russia - said a probe has been launched into the accident.
