Early crocodilians were more often terrestrial creatures. Some of them were rather distinct in appearance too, earning them names ike kaprosuchus (literally boar crocodile), anatosuchus (duck crocodile), and so on. All of them very much fearsome land predators.
But there were some oddballs among ancient crocs. Sphagesaurus, Chimaerasuchus, and Simosuchus etc species were , as per dental & digestive system structure, actually terrestrial herbivores! Blew my mind...
