There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Asiatic Lion Reintroduction Project

Pride of Asiatic lions seating around or eating on the corps of Indian wild Ass somewhere in the desert of Kuch of Rann would be really an ancient view even somehow a old Persian view. It remind me the stories about the armies of Alexander the Great or ancient barelefs with lions in Persia and Babylonia. Probably in this deserted lands lions could have some problems with drinking water but they could concentrate around the few water resources.
Problem with Kuch of Rann I think is again more political than zoological. Its situated too close to Pakistani border and if few lions escape to Sind and hence the momopoly of lions is lost that mean that the government in Ahmedabad is gonna fall imidiatelly.... and new unscheduled elections held... So probably first they will fence the aria from the West... I am already start thinking like those guys in Gujarat Forest Departmant....

You are right, Eastern and Northeastern Gujarat are too densily populated for lions - the map shows this. So the arias of Kathiawar peninsula suitable for lions could feed probably maximum of 700-800 animals. That's not bad! But everything depends will in the future arise some serious man-lion conflict or not. I think these lions are quite smart, they somehow start to create some kind of new urbanistic lion subspecies - Panthera leo urbanea.
