There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.
Brothers in arms.
(Masai Lions at Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania)
There were 4 lions (male) sleeping in a patch of grass just next to the road. No amount of jeeps moving back and forth and excited tourists disturbed their sleep. These two looked "cute" :)
Our guide informed us that there is just one pride of lions left in the Ngorongoro Crater, roughly 18 of them. At one time, the crater had the densest known population of Masai Lions, in 2001 there were 62 of them in a 260 square km area. 21 of them were wiped out between January and April 2001 from a combination of tick-borne disease and canine distemper. Since then, the population has continued to decrease and is subject to intense in-breeding.
