I know very little about it, but thinking about it it's not too hard to think what could have happened. So many males could have been easily separated, and about the mother, no I do not think they would have killed her, it doesn't make sense.
What could have happened is that she simply joined a mature male, or maybe returned to her territory. She also could have fallen prey of rival prides, you know how territorial lioneese are.
