There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.
Lorkulup diagnosis report Yesterday, we received reports that the lion was in a bad headspace — quite literally. He was having difficulty breathing and his face was very swollen. All signs indicated an adverse reaction to a poisonous bite. Given Lorkulup’s compromised respiration, it was too risky to anaesthetise him for treatment. Instead, our SWT/KWS Mara Mobile Vet Unit delivered anti-inflammatory medication remotely via dart gun. The team recovered the darts while Lorkulup rejoined his brother, who was waiting a few metres away. Dr Njoroge is optimistic that he will make a complete recovery, but the team will continue to monitor him. We operate six Mobile Veterinary Units and an aerial Sky Vets initiative in partnership with the KWS. These teams provide rapid, in-the-field treatment across Kenya, saving hundreds of wild lives each year.
