Its not that odd if the age gap is to large. 

The young ones still want to play and hide away at the first sign of other lions nearby. The older ones seek out lionesses and confront rivals. 
The younger lions feel the older lions are stealing their food. The older ones feel the younger ones are holding them back and not contributing enough. 
The young ones want to stay close to their natal pride. Still not willing to come to terms with the idea that mommy and daddy kicked them out. While the older ones want to leave and strike it out on their own. Reply
