BEARS of the last frontier... Ringed seals are the mainstay of a polar bear's diet. Seals depend on ice, and so, in turn, do polar bears. In fact, the two species are so closely tied that the number of seals regulate the number of bears and vice versa like the relationship of the lynx and the snowshoe hare. It is even possible to estimate the number of seals from knowing the number of polar bears in a population.  Reply
