There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.
I don't think its as black and white for lions as it is all about dominating a pride rather than the land. Roaring or scent marking are just tools to deter rivals to prevent a more serious fight.
He is still in control of the pride. But that he stopped roaring etc shows that he no longer believes that deterrence is enough to keep rivals at bay. Nor that he feels confident enough in his chances to win a fight.
So I think he is now just trying to ride it out and hoping an actual takeover never happens. Sacrificing land for more time with the pride.
Regardless. It is a sign he is on the way out. Either a takeover happens or the pride itself will shift their attention to the stronger males once its time to start the next generation.
