Ranger’s Report:
In the area of Kirkman's Kamp the tensions between the young Tsalala / Marthly and Avoca male coalition increased. The resident Tsalala pride made a Buffalo kill but the Lionesses and cubs were pushed away from the kill by their own 3 sons. Suddenly an unexpected intruder wanted also the big meal and started feeding on the prey. It was one of the Avoca males. The Skirmish started between the young males. These sounds were heard over the sandbank of the river. Scar Nose Majingilane appears on the scene and now the young males were in panic and fled.
A few weeks later the three Tsalala young males were devouring a recent buffalo kill, when the brazen Avoca coalition decided to get in on the action. Ranger Geoffrey Haslam managed to film two clips of the five lions surrounding the carcass. The Avocas were successful this time and the Tsalalas left the kill.
In October 2017 a battle broke out between the three young Tsalala males and the young Avoca males as they fought over the recent buffalo kill the Avoca males had made.
This time the Majingi sons were much more aggressive and they chased the Avocas away. It went back and forth for months and a clear winner could not emerge.
The Tsalala\Marthly Young males were a coalition of 3 male lions and they were born in August 2013. They were fathered by the Majingilane Males. In Mala mala the Tsalala pride is called Marthly pride and these young males are called Young Marthly males.
