There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Quote:one of the five impressive Lake Quintet males this is a more recent shot of one of the five brothers, referred to as LK116. He’s characterized by a thick dark mane that completely covers his chest and shoulders, as well as an exceptionally bulky body size. Can you actually believe that by the time this picture was taken in 2019 he was only 6 years old?! Although he easily shows the appearance of a male lion in his late prime years, he was only born in June 2013. This makes him a prime example of how fast male lions in the Ngorongoro Crater seem to mature compared to their counterparts in other regions of Africa.

In my opinion, I believe that the Ngorongoro Crater produces some of the most beautiful male lions, of anywhere else I've seen. They have a unique appearance, and always appear to be true giants of the species, very thick bodies and legs, and really large robust heads that carry an appearance that I don't see occurring anywhere else. C-Boy and Hildur were my introduction to them, and are some of the most gorgeous lions I've seen. Is it possible that there may be a known reason for this, could the possibly be their own unique sub-species, like the Asiatic lions? In my opinion they have a sort of Barbary appearance to them, it's difficult to explain but you know it the moment you see it.
