There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Kevin Richardson: " Look at this picture of a Vayetse and tell me you don’t see majesty, strength, courage, power, dignity, dominion, justice, ferocity and even wisdom. In Egyptian culture lions represented the heat of the sun and were represented in the goddess Sekhmet, who protected the good and annihilated the wicked. In Ancient Greece they were identified with Dionysus, Artemis, Cybele and Phoebus because they drew the chariots for these mythical gods and goddesses. The symbolic representation revolved around protection. They guarded homes, doorways, palaces and thrones as well as shrines protecting the dead. They are represented in Christianity, Hinduism and Buddhism representing courage, consistency, strength and wisdom. In alchemy, their symbolism is connected to the attributes of gold. I can go on and on as to what makes lions so culturally significant, but what boggles my mind is, if humans have revered lions for thousands upon thousands of years and still do, then why do we now, in a time when we are meant to be intellectually more superior to our ancestors and more empathetic towards animals, treat lions with such disregard and such disrespect; as mere commodities that can bred, petted, walked with and then thrown away like used oil rags to be shot for their heads and cut up for their bones to be sent off to SE Asia to be used in potions and lotions where they were never traditionally used in the first place! It truly beggars belief. "
