I think so, too.  However, I do think Solo and Cleo (along with several other partners of Solo's) were a product of their time and were unlucky being around mega coalitions such as the Mapogos, that tried to kill every lion in their path that didn't run away.  Solo's partners were probably picked off one at a time by lions that arguably killed over a 100 others.  Solo was born only a year before the Reign of Terror began.   How he survived is a miracle.  A single ranger claimed he personally put down over a dozen lions mauled and paralyzed.  It's great, though, to know that unrelated male coalitions can be successful like the Thanda Impi, when conditions are right and the males in their prime. They also came together quite later in life.

Solo and Cleo were born in Mapogo era, but when they came into age in which they started to look for territorry for themselfs the Mapogos were already gone. Solo and Cleo did not compete with Mapogo males. Reply
