And Banke he is, the one who came from Assam's Pobitora in 1984 when he was just 15 along with 1 male and 3 female Rhinos. They together were the group of 5 Rhinos that were reintroduced in Dudhwa's Kakraha region in 1984. A year later 4 more female Rhinos were brought from Chitwan, Nepal to Dudhwa. And hence from the Rhino Reintroduction prgramme phase 1, a drought of 106 years of Rhinos perished in the Terai forests of UP. Banke Rhino among all was the most famous Rhinos from Dudhwa. He was the most dominant of all Rhinos and won the mating rights for a major part of his life until his life ended in an infighting in December 2016 at the age of 49. It was this dominant behaviour of Banke that lead to a need for a Rhino Relocation Programme Phase 2 for the fear of inbreeding among Dudhwa Rhinos. It is believed that most of the Rhinos in Dudhwa are progeny of Rhino Banke only.
