There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Your photos: Like especially at #22 and #23.

I read this morning on a french site about the fauna in Benin  that Pendjari park wasn't well protected, to such an extant that they didn't know more if there was still some lions in this park. I hope it's exaggerated. And if we wanted to be sure to see some lions it would be worth better to go into the "W national park" overlapping three countries aeras : Benin, Niger and Burkina Faso.

That is a complete exaggeration as pendjari np has a healthy lion population, and it is not to  difficult to see them theer. African parks has started work there recently.

OK, I believe you. But I didn't make up anything... This was this link:

https://www.easyvoyage.com/benin/animaux-d-afrique-375

Second line of the presentation: "Cependant, évitez la Pendjari, dont la population animale est réduite à peau de chagrin." I translate "However, avoid the Pendjari of which the fauna has been whittled away". OK this site is mode from a travel agency "Easy voyage"... They are lying through their teeth. Business as usual...

Generally smaller, but I said it depends on the prey density.

Recent info on the size of lions in western Africa was posted so time ago, but I need time to find it. Could be anywhere.

In lions, differences in size within populations are more pronounced than differences between populations. There are differences at the level of region, but they are limited. Kruger lions top the table for greatest total skull length, but there's not much on other regions.

Interesting info, Lycaon.

@epaiva :

About #38: About the size of the different lions populations, we often hear everything and its opposite. For a long while I have heard that the senegalensis lions, despite they are poorly-maned lions, were the biggest of Africa. Of course, because their extant population is now very reduced, we don't speak about them anymore.

As @GrizzlyClaws said it depends on the prey density.

It is also good to keep in mind that west african lions are still generally poorly understood.
They also live in countries that many researchers would rather not go so finding info on them is difficult.
