(09-17-2014, 11:49 PM)'sanjay' Wrote: Pckts,

This is write up for blog not a forum discussion topic to discuss.
A blog generally contains the common general facts not the lesser know facts.

For example, it right that Bengal are equal or even greater in weight compared to modern amur but this has not been scientifically proved and have not been accepted among scientists. in fact, I guess this is newly discovered fact.

Though I will try to consider your points.

I also proposed you guys to write blog on these topics

Actually Sanjay, it is proven. The only weights that could compare to verified bengals are of hunters claims of amurs. Even so, the Bengal is the world record holder and the verified weights show a larger weight for the bengals. This is much more proven than the original claim of Amurs being the largest. Remember, captivity has nothing to do with Wild cats since not a single pure bred Bengal lives in N. America as well as Amurs having more fat due to living in colder climate.

In regards to Muscle size of Forearms, biceps and legs, this is also proven. Measurements have shown a 2'' difference in these departments for the Tiger more or less. If you want to try and claim organ size difference, this is far more contested since no real data exists. Chest girth is also almost identical and the largest chest girth I believe is also owned by the tiger. But per body length a lion has a slightly larger girth, but since a tiger is the longer cat and its heavier weights coincide with the longest body length, that means to compare same body length tiger and lions in not correct.

To say this "When compare to tiger Lions have longer skull, heart and shoulder bumps" is far less factual since there is not actual data to prove the claims other than skull length. But width and weight is also proven as well as Peter says that the siberians he has measured have the longest length, I believe.

Our goal is to provide fact, correct?
Bengals are the heavier animals by almost 20kg compared to siberians and lions on average, siberians have a longer skull and body length is very close almost identical.
Lions have a longer skull on average compared to bengals while the same compared to Amurs. Bengals have the widest and heaviest skull, Largest Canines on record (madla) and claws. They have the larger forearms, biceps and rear legs with a longer body when compared to Lions.

I'll try my best to get the prehistoric feline profiles up within this month, might need some help to find uncopyrighted images as I don't have time to draw new ones and the ones I have drawn are saved for a book.

Just single images for each profile to represent the species. Plenty of Smilodon and cave lion pictures around, but I'm not sure of the copyright grounds.

Searched for images in google, Open all those images which you like in separate tabs.
Read text around it and see if it is written a copyright words on image or near by. If there is any images that have written it clearly. Don't use them.

Some images may have written copyright, but will also allow to use them if you maintain their copyright informatiom.
So for example you have image of Smilodon and it has copyright, just use it and in your blog just below the image mention the copyright.

For those images which have no copyright text around or on it, you can use it without any problem, if the origianl owner make any objection, we will remove it.
So go ahead and search your images

Hope this help @tigerluver

Once again Sanjay, the facts remain, the bengal tiger is the largest Tiger alive, not the Amur.
Why even go out of your way to say lions have a longer skull and not that tigers have a wider skull, or larger canines or claws?
Also according to Kanwar and many others, no way to do lions Look larger, tigers are the larger looking animal according to their eye witness account.
Like I stated before, if you are going to mention morphological differences then mention them all.

Tigers are longer bodied, larger forearms, biceps, rear quarters, longer canines, wider skulls more robust overall.

Lions have longer skulls, slightly taller on average even though that isn't true either because both shoulder heights match up evenly at maximums or average and lions have manes.

I will be more than happy to post measurements of forearms, shoulder height, body length etc. If you have not seen them already.

@Pckts, I don't have all those proof and I am not an expert.

I have written common things which I have read through web, I have mention in blog that Bengal are heavier.
To write everything in blog post is not possible.

Why don't you write your blog with all your proof and experience ? If it is long, divide it into multipart

I never said I was going to write a blog, correct?
You asked, and I gave you factual answers. You don't believe them, feel free to ask Peter, Gaute, Tigerluver, Copters, Panthera etc.
All of them are well aware of morphological differences, this is old hat.
If you feel like looking them up, we already have threads devoted to forearm and bicep girth with tons of measurements, we have threads devoted to Skull size with measurements, shoulder height etc.

Just a example, here is the forearm differences

for the lion:
17 inch, 21 inch, 19 inch, 18 inch, 18 inch, 18 inch, 20 inch, 20 inch, 20 inch, 17 inch = 188
188 / 10 = 18,8 inch

for the tiger:
21 inch, 21 inch, 21 inch, 19 inch, 18 inch, 17 3/4 inch, 19 inch, 18 inch, 19 1/2 inch, 19 1/5 inch, 18 inch, 19 1/2 inch, 20 inch, 20 inch, 20 inch, 21 inch, 22 inch = 333,95
333,95 / 17 = 19,6 inch

and Bicep
Above joint = Biceps }

Tiger = Close to 2 feet

Lion = Between 18 and 20 inches

I appreciate all of your hard work sanjay, but if you are going to make specific morphological statements you should have all of the facts or maybe just keep it to the lines of discussing sub species and differences between them and leave out the morphological talk.
Just my two cents

In my humble opinion, the details of each species should be in the specific specie's blog. For example, have a tiger profile, and in that members can add on with their data. Sanjay was going for an overview, a nice introductory gate to the rest of details we'll have online in time.I think I'll incorporate Sanjay's overview idea into the larger Pleistocene cats section, as well having individual, specie-specific, profiles with the details.

I also propose an editorial system, giving certain members the "keys", to keep everything linguistically pleasing, filtered, and corrected when needed.

I agree with you tigerluver,
And i want to say the same thing to pckts, I was just offering and introductory blog post to other members so that they can write up their own article in detail

One suggestion to all those though.

I suggest all of you to use your original profile picture and name
reason, this may be the platform that can make you famous animal expert with time. All wild life expert has their own identity, their name and picture.
Using your original pic (professional) and name add lot of weight in your theory, thesis etc. This also add value in your presentation of the content.

Just see all those famous wildlife experts or from any other industry, You will see their picture and name.

Though this is not compulsory, but if you are planning your career as animal expert, then consider this suggestion very seriously.

Let me know if you have any privacy concern.

To be fair, with the amount of hacking that occurs, I am not comfortable using my name and image.

A couple of things about skull differences as well, Sanjay

*This image is copyright of its original author

"It brings the overall skull weight to 2.012 kg. The Bengal tigers had a skull weight of 2.135 kg. Statistically speaking, that is equal. 4.43 lbs vs 4.70 lbs."
and that was also after you added two more selective tables that only offered a few skull measurements from many specimens taken. and yet, lions still have the lighter skulls.

http://books.google.ca/books?id=NhZHAAAA...&q&f=false

Bengal tiger
Average skull length 353.1 mm (n=12); Average skull weight 2.135 kg. - Rowland Ward (1913) + others

African lion:

African lion (Typical)
Average skull length 355.861 mm (n=18); Average skull weight 1.767 kg. - Museum

Amur tiger:

Not much on Amur tigers, but what does exist shows they are typically not as massive as Bengal tigers, despite being longer. This specimen below is less then the average (367 mm).

Amur tiger
Average skull length 359.45 mm (n=1); Average skull weight 1.769 kg.
http://animaluntamed.yuku.com/topic/1482...Bs_UxZ5Ayh

Here is a lot of info on skull differences between the 3 ^^

Pckts,

don't afraid from hacking.
Hacking happens to those who are not updating themselves with basic knowledge of using internet.

Your name and picture, never going to give any hacking resource to a hacker, Though I agree your email can be, but only for those who don't read at list basic definition of using internet. believe me if you just follow my article i have written in hacking section, no amateur hacker can hack you. You have nothing to get hacked except email, Have you heard of any one give his email id public, no, so only give your email id to one whom you trust.

Though website can be hacked, but that does not mean your identity has been hacked. Any aware member can never be hacked even if website has been hacked.
