There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

We were few steps away from this lion. Looking at its expression sent chill down our spines. Our guide quick drove us away to minimise any danger. It was an exhilarating experience! #lion #safari #wild #anger #danger
.
.
Now the thing is; going by looks this guy seems more like a dietary supplement fed canned lion than a true wild one. Never seen such mane grow naturally.
I hear a lot about how the private safaris are more like big fenced game farming ranches.
I'd like to hear what you say on this...

Yes Rishi , this certainly looks like a can fed lion - a pretty fat boy - see his condition - not fit to hunt or really fight i would say. There are small game farms in the Western Cape and Free State and other provinces where lions are kept for the show in relatively small areas. This looks like a show lion - the Majingelani's will have him for breakfast.

Rishi, compare the show lion to the one in #813 and the difference in condition becomes obvious.

Hey, is this one of them swamp lions I heard about, seen a show on this once?  Lions all trudging around through murky waters and swimmin, battling crocs and hippos an stuff.

Yeah, i thought so too...Just had to check.

The advertisement says "wild lion" & description of the sighting sounded...well, odd. I needed to make sure, if some of the Southerners could grow that mane naturally or whether they are just duping their visitors...
Pretty sure they do the same to MOST hunters too. Most internet images of hunters with their kills brandish lions like that one.

Earlier, i used to go into depression after seeing such grand specimens lying dead & thought of the loss to the wild genepool...I feel better now.
