I spoke w a guide that’s currently on leave and he said that before he left it had been two weeks and before that she was looking rough

I guess she is gone then, prob age caught her, she is 14+ yrs old.

This latest troubles might be related, as now only 2 females prob have hard time with 11 subs.

I need to dig deeper but there’s conversations circulating about a possible conflict with the Gijima Males.

They fear there’s been several casualties.   I’m hearing very dim outlook about several cubs now missing.

I wish I knew more ATM still trying to get more evidence and verifications

Gijima Males can tolerate the two Southern Pride girls. Hope they can do the same to the Styx Pride sub-adults.

Seems the Styx pride have regrouped and their status isn’t as grim as previously thought.   Ten cubs and two lionesses were accounted for

Credit: Sabi Sabi
Upon heading out on safari, we immediately noticed lion tracks at the entrance to Bush Lodge.  A short tracking exercise led us to the Styx Pride.  After a run in with the Kambula females, the Styx Pride have been through some difficult times. They did however look in better shape after what must have been a large meal judging by the size of their bellies. One of the cubs still has some flesh wounds but seems to be healing well with the protection of the pride. There is still one cub and one adult female absent from the pride.

Great news coming from Lion Sands:
All 11 cubs accounted for.   Only the RollerCoaster Lioness seems missing

The Styx Pride on the move!

Head guide Riaan Fourie managed to capture this image of the Styx pride on the move at Lion Sands.

The last few months has been a difficult time for this pride while they've been trying to avoid the Gijima males and having run-ins with the Khambula Pride.

Only 2 adult lionesses and 11 cubs were present. Time will tell what the true story around the Styx pride number will be.

"Out on her own, we found one of the Styx females. As we wondered where the cubs might be hiding, she made a contact call to her cubs. We sat and listened as we hoped they would appear out of the bush at any time but as it got darker, we pulled out of the area to go and enjoy the beautiful sunset and a sundowner drink. After our drinks stop, we made our way back into the area where we left the female, and to our surprise, we found 6 cubs with her!

When mothers and cubs are separated from one another, they will make use of a contact call to relocate one another."

Any more info about that clash with Gijimas, where apperantly 1 cub was killed? As it looks like pride is split between 2 adult females.

I think the confusion lies due to a Lion Sands report that said they accounted for all 11 cubs…which in retrospect sounds to me was either old (reposted) or mixed up.

What I believe has happened is that Kambulas killed one larger male…..then in a separate clash with HGijimas, they lost a second boy….a younger one (had a lump in his leg).

RN the info I’m giving above comes from my notes in speaking with a few people along the way.   Again, when LS later then said they had all 11 cubs, I began to question my former information.   But I now think it’s lining up to be true.

Yes, it is Majingilane daughter. She looks kind of worn out. Bless her and the Birmingham daughter for trying and feeding those growing cubs/subadults on their own. It's unfortunate that it seems the N'waswitshaka males are either neglecting or abandoning the pride.

That largest male wasnt killed by Kambulas, as he was seen later on with Styx's, all scared over his back.
