I have not seen the on beat episode yet, but heard the news from a friend of mine in Manyeleti. I really tried hard to get them to help him as it may have been Anthrax and not a snake bite. I was actually told this by another ranger and was shown pictures to compare symptoms.
He was 8 years old.... in his prime. He was voted best looking male lion in Manyeleti. He was indeed an incredible male lion.
I remember him as a cub and then as a young sub adult following his fathers around. He was a big boy!
He has 5 remaining cubs in the koppies pride, sons and daughters in the Skorro breakaway pride and 4 Mbiri females are pregnant.
Unfortunately, the success of the Orpen coalition rested on Junior's shoulders as Buddy is not in the best condition.
The future belongs to the 4 young Mbiri males.
If Buddy can form a bond with Red Rd, maybe he has a chance. They both need a partner now. But that is wishful thinking.
R.I.P to Junior Nkuhuma/Orpen/Matimba
You are survived by your Father/Uncle Hairy Belly, Your Sister/littermate Purple Eye and your offspring.
Rest now big man, your patrol is over.
Sad news. I was hoping he would make it through.
Years ago I read a book about the Pygmies and a line stuck with me: "If the darkness is, and the darkness is from the forest, then the darkness must be good!"
I hope his cubs and partner make it.
Let's hope! The cubs and Buddy has a tough way to go from now and onwards. Definitely,And without any doubt,The death of Junior had a big impact in the lion dynamics in the Northern Manyeleti
That is yet to be seen. Demise of Orpen males can for sure cause a lot of changes around, but does not have to. We will see which male lions will try now to put a claim on Mbiri pride.

The Koppies Pride were three strong at the start of 2020, with seven cubs on the way, and two healthy males over their territory— now the Koppies “pride” is gone, who know where the lone female is, Junior is dead, and Buddy is riddled with TB. A whole family tree has been wiped out... just unbelievable.

15 members of all ages.
They're a force to be reckoned with.
The Imbali male and Imbali pride were on Buffelshoek boundary lately.
Junior Matimba of the Orpen male coalition stops at the edge of a clearing before following the rest of his pride further east and back into Kruger National Park.

Holy how big is RRM??
He said that he is bigger then Orpen males, who are not small males..
And then he said after he found DM Avoca, that RRM is definitely bigger then him, bigger body and head size, and DM has massive head and body himself..
RRM must be one of the biggest males in Kruger...
Also no word of Buddy, im affraid he wont last long alone, especially without a pride..
Red Road looks great! He’s not even in his prime, so it’s not surprising he’s getting better looking every day. I always feel like 7-8 years old is when males look their best (best mane, size, etc). Also he’s one of those lions that always looks... I’m not sure what word to use....thick? He reminds me of a Mfumo or Caesar Notch. That same body type.

(Mfumo always with a big belly lol)
The Mbiri/Nharu males too... so impressive. Makes me a bit sad for their half brothers Tumbelas. They don’t even look half as developed as these guys.

Its not certaint, for long is believed that he is sired by Avoca/Giraffes, but new evidence shows us that he is more likely to be sired by Scorro Thanda Impi male.
From my understanding the old avoca/giraffe males were huge chunky lions so maybe they sired him, after Hearing today about how large he is. Scorro wasn't to big was he?
