There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

The majestic male elephant in front of the beautiful snow capped Mt Kilimanjaro. "

There's a couple more less interesting graphs and tables I left out that are in the paper if you wish to see them

Beverly Joubert: " For elephants to thrive, they need vast tracts of protected land in which to forage and roam. Herds can sometimes consist of several family groups and may number well over 50 individuals. Lots of elephants require lots of food and water, so it’s vital that large enough areas of land are preserved for these giants to flourish. ⁣

This #WorldEnvironmentDay is unlike any other. As we continue to struggle in the face of a growing pandemic, we are reminded more than ever that our relationship with nature is fragile and that it must be nurtured if we hope to have a future. ⁣⁣

If you are looking to contribute to a cause today, please consider our new initiative: #ProjectRanger. This emergency relief fund was set up to help support those who risk their lives to protect our precious wildlife. Now more than ever, rangers could use our help (ink in the bio)⁣.⁣ "

Valentin Pacaut: " Tusker, Kruger National Park, South Africa.

This is the king of sighting you think about when your mind is in Africa! How lucky we were to meet that giant in Kruger National Park. What a feeling to face this tusker! These elephants have become a special target for poachers. The fight continues. "

David Yarrow: " Squad ⁣⁣⁣

⁣⁣⁣A big image from 2019 - perhaps up there in my elephant work over the last 10 years. We will get back there in 2020 - I have no doubt, but maybe not until the autumn. East Africa is not a good news story right now.⁣
In the meantime, we think, we learn and we process. We will all comeback stronger from these dark days. "

Elephants do this primarily to preserve the health of their teeth. "

Dereck Joubert: " "For several thousand years now, the ivory business’s modus is extermination. The story of elephants in our time is: annihilation for ivory and compression by human expansion into ‘refuges’. They are refugees. And because of ivory, there’s no safety in refuges. And because of human expansion, no refuge is safe in the long-term." – Carl Safina "

Beverly Joubert: " Today we celebrate fathers everywhere and the vital role they play in the lives of their families. Although elephant societies are matriarchal, the influence of experienced bulls is essential to a healthy herd. Younger males learn much of their behaviour from their elders, and in situations where mature bulls have been removed by poaching or legal hunting, herds are disrupted and youngsters can become excessively aggressive or fail to mate successfully as a result of a lack of guidance from older males. Without fathers around, elephant society is turned upside down.

This Father's Day spare a thought for the rangers who sacrifice so much to protect these giants (and other threatened wildlife). Current restrictions on travel have put strain on the livelihoods of many rangers who face a loss of income as funding from tourism dries up. Please consider donating to our #ProjectRanger emergency relief fund – an initiative set up to provide much-needed support to rangers working on the frontlines of conservation. "

Mark Dumbleton: " The cool air of dusk brings to an end a warm day in the Masai Mara as beautiful, post-sunset light spills across the western sky with beautiful orange-red hues. A lone Elephant continues to feed as the light slowly fades into darkness. "
