Dear Jared,

Thank you for your interest shown in our lions.

Aslan’s operation was a success thank you and I am sure he is in a lot less pain having had his teeth repaired.

They were on average between 190 kg and heaviest if I recall was 210 kg.

No not really difference in the tawny vs white

Best Wishes,
Mandy

https://wildfact.com/forum/topic-are-white-tigers-lions-larger-than-normal-colored?highlight=white

I spoke with Mandy, she said the heaviest was 210kg.
Feel free to ask if Mandy, that's his wife I believe.
It's the same email address

She replied to me too. But did you get reply after 2014 operation or 2015?
The response was from Oct. 2016

Ok, then I guess, that need to write once again. In her reply to you there is some uncertainty. I mean "if I recall" part. I asked now twice very directly if Gandalf is really 250 kg, but since there is so big contradiction, hopefully this can be clarified.
She may not know for certain, may be you can ask to contact the Vet?
I'm sure he/she would be interesting to talk to.

I got now new reply from Mandy. She said, that 190-210 kg sounds more familiar for her. But she wasn´t sure about weight of Gandalf and if he is heavier. And she didn´t have records to check that weight at the moment. She then again confirmed it, that Gandalf is a very big lion, she actually used words extremely big to describe him.

Maybe it´s a good idea to ask from veterinarians, who did those dental treatments, if they still have notes with weights of the treated lions.

It was good, that you had been in contact there too and mistake was avoided. I´ll try to get information from Fixodent.
Any update on gandalf?

No, not yet. At least I haven´t got reply yet but I´ve sent email to organization, which participated to that big dental treatment operation. Sometimes it takes a bit time to get replies. But I think, that it won´t be as big as Aslan from Kristiansand zoo, who is a truly exceptional lion. I haven´t found so far any fit big cat bigger than him in captivity, which I would take seriously. I´ve found only two tigers as big as him. This is of course how I see it, some others have different kind of opinions. I´m quite skeptical and count in only weights which some credible source confirms as weighed, not estimated. So some poster writing something in some forum isn´t for me enough if there is nothing to really back it up. A 250 kg big cat can easily be estimated to be 300 kg, they are absolutely huge and anyone can make mistake, when seeing a tiger or lion that big and many have done those mistakes.
I think Nkosi from givskud zoo might have matched his weight. That lion was huge compared to lionesses there.

And what about this lion from ree park safari.@Pantherinae said lion weighed 280 kg.He also looks huge.

@ 0:14 with Lionesses

Well Inkosi is Aslan's father Tau's brother. Both weighed 250 kg+ That 280 kg lion doesn't look fit like Aslan,Tau or Inkosi.

Nkosi is big, but according to the zoo, not as big as Aslan. He is uncle of Aslan though and they said, that father and uncle of Aslan were both close to 250 kg in their prime but I didn´t get exact weight. I might ask again if that would be possible.

I don´t know about this claimed 280 kg lion, but worth to ask from the zoo to get verification, even though @Pantherinae says for sure what is told to him. Still when we are talking about extreme weights, it is better to get some email from the zoo, where is told clearly that lion has been on the scale and exact weight.

Yes, biologist and I didn´t get those weights. They look overweight in some videos, not nearly as fit as Aslan. Of course they might have been already old lions in those videos. But I´ll ask again and interesting to see what kind of answer will be. When someone say "around" or "over" that doesn´t sound like really weighed, so real weights could be easily anything in between 220-250.... estimations are just estimations after all.

With Nkosi and Tau it´s not so much about it, that are they big, but how big. They are close relatives after all. But when I look at these 3 lions, for me Aslan is by far the most fit and muscular lion.

I got one reply concerning tiger Gamin. I asked about him from one other zoo and biologist in hope to get some information. In this case the person and zoo don´t want to be involved in this kind of discussions (not about their own animals after all), but I can share text.

"Thank you for your email.  I am not aware of any big cats heavier than you have already found, and I have the same weights for Gamin as Marwell have already given you, so not aware of anything before this time.   Gamin was born at Parc Zoologique de Jurques in France, but there are no weights recorded for Gamin before 2011.

As Marwell have already informed you, they don’t have any staff working there now who worked with Gamin, there may be a possibility he was massively overweight and went on a strict diet when he arrived at Marwell in 2002.  Looking at photos and footage of him, that does seem to be the case, as some of the photos he looks very overweight, and in others he is a lot slimmer, but has excess belly fat!

Hope this helps"

Regarding that lion from Ree Park I was given a more realistic weight of 230 kg last summer when I wisited. I have seen Aslans father when I was younger. He was very big I remember that, but I can’t tell how he would compare to Aslan.

Lioness Zuri killed her long time mate, Nyack.

"Zuri was only 25 lbs (11kgs) lighter than her male counterpart, weighing 325lbs.
Male lions typically weigh 330lbs - 573lbs and females, 265lbs to 397lbs"

Arnound 220 kg at the age of 5, around 240 kg at the age of 7 (weighted). Lean, but very tall and long

My guess would be something in between 200-230 kg, he looks like quite big. Naturally he could be less or more, at least I can´t make any accurate estimation and feel too confident with this kind of video with nothing good to compare with.
I think this the lion that PCKTS posted i an another thread, which he said weighed 570lbs, PCKTS can confirm this.

I thought it was 550lbs but I'm not positive anymore.
But he's not a big cat in terms of frame size but he was robust and overweight
They had a white Lion there that was much larger than him in frame but was more lean and he was 500lbs according to them.
They also had 2 Tigers which they said both were 500lbs so my guess is that they're probably estimating weights but who knows for sure.

I moved that posting here since your posting seemed to be focused to weight. And what comes to Gamin, that weight isn´t clear. This is what from the zoo (Marwell Wildlife) was told, screenshot in posting #333 in this thread.

"our carnivores’ team have advised me the following:

We don’t have any carnivore staff that worked with Gamin, so we can only go by our limited records. We had 2 weights for him, 2011 – 200kg and 2012 – 217kg. In the wild Amur tigers average between 150-200kg so this would have been around the expected weight.

If 273kg is correct he was probably considerably overweight. Our current male, Bagai, is 158kg and in the prime of his life. He is in very good condition and looks what like what you would expect of an Amur tiger."

When putting some figures, also sources would be very nice to see. We know, that there was a poster claiming such weight, but I have never seen anyone to show any real proof. I wrote to Marwell Wildlife and got that answer. Anyone can double check it easily. Naturally people can believe what they choose, but when publishing exact weights, some real source should be there. Otherwise people can post practically anything and put random weights, not good.

158 KG? That's very small for a captive Amur.IMO captive average amur 190-200 kg Biggest 250+ anyways he's a good looking boy

@Hello

I got now new reply from Givskud zoo and the numbers you got were right, when I got first reply it was more vague, but they confirmed now that information what you told.

Here is quote from the email I got:

"Since we spoke last I have dug up some numbers. Apparently Tau had been weighed in 2001 to 265 kg. I don’t know how, but it was in relation to his transport to the zoo.  Nkosi weighed 270 on the day he died. He was an older male, so he might have been a bit overweight. "

It was good, that you had asked too, now it´s double checked then. I asked still some extra information, maybe some more details are possible to get one day. Very impressive lions, no question about it.
