Some of these guys look so much like Asiatic-African hybrids that used to be bred in Indian zoos once!
The practice was discontinued due to the animals having little to no conservation value.

BTW, you post mostly images. So, try to provide photo credits, or atleast a link to the source whenever possible.

Lycaon ... JMO but I think you should get another star or maybe two for your base of knowledge for this part of Africa and its lions. A big part of me is more about the conservation aspect ... so do you know of any reputable NGO's who you might recommend supporting? thank you

That's exactly what they look like, just tend to not have the belly fold.

I find it interesting that many people on this forum think west african lions look like gir lions. For me they look completely different from each other
