Information about Caspian tigers is rare. I visited the site of Barandarani and found another photograph of a large tiger shot in Iran. Both photographs, more or less, confirm the remarks on the size of Caspian tigers in 'Die Säugetiere der Sowjetunion' (Heptner (VG) and Sludskij (AA), Band III, German translation, 1980): " ... Although it's likely all measurements were taken 'over curves', exceptional individuals have been seen more than once. One of them was a male shot near Prishib (Lenkoran) in 1899. This tiger had a head and body length of 270 cm and a total length of 360 cm (...). Satunin (KA) saw this giant with his own eyes: " ... I've read a few books in which Caspian tigers feature. They were published in the days of the British Raj and discussed in the tiger thread. All tigers were shot in the eastern part of Iran (Mazanderan). In size, they (referring to adult males only) more or less compared to their relatives in British India.
