Because of decent conservation, tigers in Southern ghats are reclaiming the area they had inhabited for millennia but had been exterminated from for decades. Mudumalai and Sathyamangalam tiger reserves have a very good prey base and tiger numbers have increased manifold. So, after decades, a camera trap picked up a male tiger’s presence in Coimbatore district. It is the southernmost sighting of a tiger in Tamil Nadu.

And that comes with travelling, as shown by the male tiger T-31, which made news by travelling almost 300 km (186.4 miles) in the last few months (as of the end of July), by crossing several wildlife areas, villages and boundaries of states. It was first camera-trapped in Chandoli National Park, within Sahyadri Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra State, in 2018, before being spotted in Kali Tiger Reserve in Dandeli or Joida, Uttara Kannada District, Karnataka State, in May 2020: https://www.newindianexpress.com/states/karnataka/2020/jul/29/male-tiger-travels-300-km-from-maharashtra-to-make-karnataka-its-new-home-2176295.htmlhttps://www.indiatvnews.com/news/india/tiger-travels-300-km-from-maharashtra-to-make-new-home-in-karnataka-639094https://www.indiatimes.com/news/india/tiger-travels-from-maharashtra-makes-karnataka-its-new-home-519256.htmlhttps://english.newstracklive.com/news/when-male-tiger-travels-300km-from-maharashtra-to-karnataka-for-his-new-home-sc108-nu910-ta272-1110022-1.htmlhttps://www.deccanherald.com/state/tiger-walks-300-km-from-maharasthra-to-kali-reserve-869593.html

@BorneanTiger, yeah this news was covered in post #229 of this thread. The new development is from Coimbatore district which would be around 700-800 kilometres south to southeast of the place where T31 has moved in. They are separated by a big distance but the common challenges do bring them together.

Zhayynn James: " A tiger emerges from the backwaters lit by the evening light. The tall forest behind cast a dark reflection on the water and I underexposed this image in camera to deepen the effect. "
