RE: Lions of Timbavati - Spalea - 02-15-2023

I just come to discover this video dated from 10 days... One of these two males seems to have a weak hind limb. It's weird seeing this when he charges the hyenas...

RE: Lions of Timbavati - DARK MANE - 02-15-2023

The golden mane,1/3 river pride male.
He is at number 3 in hierarchy . A few months ago he was chased by scorocoro while breaching into his territory.

I don’t think so friend. This male was fully nomadic and not seen mating with any prides. I believe he stole a kill from the Avoca pride which was then turned into “he’s the father of all the cubs” of the Avoca pride (Typical FB speculation)  Lol

This was a hot topic back in the day and the only male proven to be with the pride during the period the Xikukustu males were born were the Giraffe males. I’ll look to see if I can find those post.

Here’s also a male who was breeding away from the pride with one of the females. Unfortunately never got what he was known as (coalition name wise). He charged the other land rover shortly after we left, which we could see coming from the second pic (reason we left him to it). He may have been the Male that made the news after being lured off the reserve to be shot a few months after.

I'm sorry you didn't get a response. This is Skye the dominant Western pride male along with some of the young Western pride males from that time. Skye and his brother dominated the Western pride from late 2013 until Skye was hunted and killed in July 2018. His brother died the year before that in late 2017. They were originally known as the Mafikizolo males seen in northern Timbavati in 2011-13, they then took up with the Western pride firstly around Elephant Dridt Safari Lodge in Klaserie in late 2013 and then seen around Ingwelala, Motswari, Simbavati and King's Camp. The five young males you photographed aren't the Vuyela males, the Vuyela males are most likely from the Sark pride, as they were first seen in SE Klaserie with an older female positively identified as a Sark pride female.
