In 2vs1 the resault would be obvious, but in 1vs1 there would have to be some huge gab in strenght between the two that one would kill the other. Killing in 1vs1 is incredibly inlikely scenario in 1vs1 between 2 healty (lame back leg of Monwana male should not matter at all in 1vs1), being in good condition lions.

There is no reason why he would fight Giraffe pride or Giraffe male. Also so much cuts on male lion's face hardly could be done be some females.
It's said that the Monwana male chased a young male one morning. So, the cuts could have been most likely made by the Giraffe young male on a ,,Scuffle". To be fair, lionesses could do a lot of scars when they feel intimidated with other lions. So, it could be very likely that were either Giraffe pride or Giraffe young male. Hercules and Sumatra males didn't showed any scar in recent sightings.

Another week, another blog – it seems like just yesterday I sat down to write up about our sightings and yet, here I am again. As they say, time flies when you’re having fun! Fortunately, it has been another very pleasant week here at Tanda Tula Safari Camp and it has been wonderful to welcome back some new and old faces; both in terms of guests and animals!
Although I have been writing these blogs the past couple of weeks with dooms day prophecies for our River Pride, the encouraging news is that for now, they seem to be carrying on without having had any known altercations with the new Skorro males. We only caught up with the pride on a couple of occasions, and the limping lioness’s paw seems to slowly be getting better. The cubs are looking good, and although we didn’t find them on any kills this past week, they were maintaining decent shape.
The Mayambula Pride spent three days to the North of our concession on a buffalo kill, but did return to their old haunts after they had satisfactorily gorged themselves, and we caught up with these impressive girls on our eastern boundary before we tracked them down in the South-east a few days later. Upon driving into the sighting we could see that the lionesses were in the presence of a large male lion and I assumed it was one of the Skorro males. Approaching cautiously, I was very pleased at how calm he was with our presence, but couldn’t get a great view due to his position behind a bush. After the lionesses regrouped a short distance away, the male lion stood up and limped over to them, and it quickly hit us that this was the limping Nharhu male back with this pride! This means that these poor girls are having to juggle the attention of two different male lion groupings and it is no surprise they are continuously throwing themselves at the males to keep the peace. They must be incredibly confused and stressed with having to be friendly with males that seem not to be too keen on their advances.
As it turns out, the Skorro males have not been seen this week and our one attempt at tracking them showed them moving back East away from our concession. With the River Pride gravitating further to the West, it seems as though the two Sark Breakaway lions have decided to seek new areas to reside. The young lioness and male (who incidentally was the male on the wildebeest kill last week, and not the young Giraffe male as I wrote) were found with a male nyala kill early in the week. They spent a day resting off their fat bellies and then headed North out of our concession. From the reports we received, they just kept moving in that direction! The Giraffe lionesses and one of their pride males were also reported in the West on two occasions, but with all the lions hanging out around Safari Camp, we didn’t venture out there.

The ones who chased the Mbiri males off were Xitaya and Mpohlo, Sadly both of them are dead

Myambulas are in similar phase like Kambulas, females are back in estrus and searching for other males to mate with, while having many subadults around..

Mbiri males no longer patros arena on which Myambula pride is operating. It seems clear Mbiris are no longer intrested in maintaining control over that pride and are no threat to remaining Nharhu males. Skorro males however are very much threat to him. Nharhu male is playing with fire by staying with Myambula pride. It is only matter of time Skorro males will catch his scent and track him down and then with his lame leg he has low chances of escaping.
On the other note it is quite bad that only 2 Sark breakaways are still around. I was hoping that the 4 breakaway females will settle down in the arena for good and there will be another pride around. I assume 3 females returned to the core pride and so will 4th female do.

Motswari update
Lion dynamics are continuing to shift in an unpredictable manner to the point where we haven't seen the Western Pride for close on two weeks. Two weeks prior to this they appeared only with the intention of investigating the carcass of a large animal of which hundreds of vultures were a tell tale sign that something had died. They stayed for a night and then disappeared again. Before this sighting, they hadn't been seen for a further two weeks. Apparently a couple of days ago they were sighted to the north of us in the Umbabat - good to know they're still alive. The two lions captured in this video are members of the Sark Breakaway Pride who have spent the last couple of days trawling up and down the Nsharalumi River, our guess is that they are brother and sister. The Jacaranda Pride have also braved into parts of our traverse and on one night even took down a young giraffe. They appear to have moved back to their usual territory. The Mayambula Pride made an appearance last week in the more southern areas of our traverse. They preyed upon a buffalo for several days and we managed to have wonderful sightings of these lions. It seems a void in the heart of our area is begging to be filled by a formidable pride, the question is, who is going to secure it for themselves?
