RE: Brown Bears (Info, Pics and Videos) - Shadow - 05-19-2019

Here another article from Sweden from this spring, April 2019. I put here english translation of article and then I put link to that article, there is video footage, where this moose and bear are recorded.

Quote:

Fredrik Källström was out driving when he suddenly saw a moose galloping past him. After it came a big just awakened bear.
- Few people have come to the middle of a hunt for life and death, says Fredrik Källström.

During Saturday, Fredrik Källström from Hammerdal in Jämtland got something very special. He was on his way home in his car from a fishing trip when a moose came galloping next to his car. Then he saw how a bear chases after the moose.
Fredrik Källström managed to get up the cellphone and he filmed the bear, then he turned the car and drove after the moose.
- Both moose and bear are obviously tired after a hunt through the snow in the forest and then out on the road, he says.

"Being privileged"

Further on, he saw how the moose wavered with froth running out of his mouth. But it had managed to shake off the bear.
- There are few honors to end up in the middle of a hunt for life and death.
Fredrik Källström and his wife have a holiday home a bit further away. His wife writes on Instagram that she usually jog there, but that the bear and moose meeting will not stop her.

There can be some odd parts in that translation, I used google translator and corrected a couple of odd translations, but if something seems odd, just ask :)

One more bear predation video. This time domestic bull gets attacked in Russia. Hopefully not been here before. I share it because there isn´t so much footage of bears when they kill some animal. These videos maybe help some people also to understand why bear attack tends to leave big clawing marks to sides of attacked animals. These attacks are always brutal to watch, bear makes kill in so different way than big cats.
Kill happens often by breaking neck of prey animal and before that there can be a lot of mauling.

Amazing! And the driver doesn't look very keen to save the life of the cow.

Actually I found now original footage from Russia. That attack against bull happened 2018 in Altai, Russia, near village Biyka.

Here are original videos. That place is southern Siberia, nearby are borders of Mongolia, China and Kazakstan, so bear is so called inland brown bear. Is it Eurasian brown bear or Siberian brown bear is difficult to say, incident happens in area where these subspecies overlap and pretty much irrelevant which one it is, difference is quite marginal.

But here originals:

Bear and moose carcass on ice. Looks like bear is testing ice strength in the beginning of video. Not too much information, uploaded September 2015 and channel seems to be Siberian, when looking at guy who uploaded this, most probably somewhere near Novosibirsk.

One older case, where bear chases moose, this time moose is able to flee. Place unknown, video from 2011.

RE: Brown Bears (Info, Pics and Videos) - Shadow - 05-21-2019

One more video from Russia (2017), where brown bear is killing moose, poor quality, but good enough to see how bear is mauling moose in water. These people seem to disturb bear and it leaves injured or dead moose to water. So if things have gone normally, bear has returned to finish and eat moose later.

Maybe some Russian member could tell if these guys who are talking say something interesting?

Yes, I posted it yesterday in this thread :) (#632)

But that is second case from Sweden and this spring. First was April, this is May. And one thing when watching this video is part from 0:05-0:08, especially when stopping video a few times at 0:08. Clawing marks on sides near hind legs are clearly visible. Some people might think, but moose was hit by the car But those clawing marks there which are actually all over the side of that moose from back to front show it clearly, that it has been mauled by the bear before collapsing finally to the side of that road.

Who knows, it could of easily been injured by a car or something else and the Bear attacked it or the Bear just purely predated on it. Bears have certainly been known to prey on Moose, especially youngsters and Cows so it's nothing unusual.

And adult bulls, there are known cases. But as said, video footage is rare because usually these happen in dense forests, where are no people. Most information comes from people who find carcasses and then see from tracks, that there has been fight between moose and bear. Naturally most are calves, but adult cows and bulls get killed too when bear is able to catch them. But they can outrun bear many times naturally :)

Bear chasing moose in Russia, but then people interfere to chase. And in this case most probably a good thing, when animals are on the road.
Near Yugor (if I understood place right) at Komi, Russia, mid of May 2019.

Bear hunts and eats deer calf. This video can´t be recommended if sensitive person. Deer calf screams aren´t nice to hear, so this video can cause bad feelings to watch. From Russia, summer 2018

RE: Brown Bears (Info, Pics and Videos) - Shadow - 05-21-2019

Two more videos from Russia.

First is from 2016. Here translations of description:

Bear tore moose in Karelia.
Moose torn by a bear, the bear is not visible, but it is nearby.

Then another video where bears and wolverine are eating moose carcass. Not more information about this. Near Pääjärvi, Russian Karelia. June 26-28 2018.

Bear on moose carcass, most probably somewhere in Russia, May 2018. Good looking bear.

RE: Brown Bears (Info, Pics and Videos) - Shadow - 05-23-2019

On following video is incident, which happened April 29th this year. Mother bear is with cubs, when male bear approaches. At this time of year rut of bears is starting and mother bear isn´t happy when male runs towards it, as can be seen on video. In the end of video when watching closely it can be seen, that male bear is bleeding from the muzzle. Male bears can be dangerous for cubs when in rut.
Place is Martinselkonen (Suomussalmi), Finland.
