@Hello :

Your two posts at #1341 and #1342 are interesting but you should have posted them at the topic dedicated to captive animals. Here, about picture and video of wild lions, it is irrelevant

And note how similar it looks to its Asiatic cousin in Gir Forest, particularly in that they both have small manes that are partly dark, and belly-folds: https://www.tripadvisor.co.za/LocationPhotoDirectLink-g4468377-d6415355-i198092922-Asiatic_Lion_Lodge-Sasan_Gir_Gir_National_Park_Gir_Somnath_District_Guj.html

@BorneanTiger
Yes, they did retain certain unique traits despite the great distance between them.

Aquila Game Reserve South Africa. This reserve is located in the Western Cape, which is within the former range of the Cape lion. This area is mountainous, so due to this it get's cold and even snowy in winter. The lions here despite having origins elsewhere in South Africa, look vastly different from their relatives up north, all thanks to the climate of course.

These lions are semi-wild by the way.

250 kg = 551.16 pounds, which is pretty big for even a male lion or tiger. Was this South African lion at Phinda weighed? I've seen even more impressive lions than this one, but they weren't apparently weighed.

RE: Lion pictures and videos - Pckts - 10-29-2019

Assume it's an estimate until verification is provided,
Rangers make estimates all the time, verified weights are a different story.

I agree, no verification. One thing I've noticed - in regards to the larger lions and tigers - there is a
subtle, but detectable, difference in their gait. Only the largest cats walk in this manner. This particular
lion exhibits this trait

The ones against the others... onto a tree !
