So apperantly BDM was seen with his 2 young sons from Giraffe pride, it seem they run away/split because of Monwana males who are taking control over Giraffe pride territory and their lionesses..

BDM being pressured (if not ousted) by his own sons. Talk about being a victim of your own success. That said, BDM's father has secured a strong legacy. His son BDM looks great here. one of my favourite lions. Huge, powerful and successful despite being a single pride male and he looks just like his father. His grandsons, the Monwana males will likely ensure that his blood continues to run strong among the lion prides in this part of the Timbavati.

Vuyela males at Kambaku. Their manes are starting to look good. Likely soon we will see them clash with Monwana males for rule over Giraffe pride.

The five boys and one girl checked in at Kambaku reception late last night with a rib rattling roar.

Amazing to hear five males roaring in unison again !!

Yea, because of 5 Vuyela males in this area, reign of 2 young Monwana males and even Xikukutsu males might be short term..

Lions of Timbavati FB Page, Has been saying that the Monwana have 6 lionesses and 1 sub-adult male with them,

So, If we follow that, Maybe the BDM Have the half of the Giraffe pride

Around 2.5 yrs..still too young to be useful against other males in a fight.

SKUKUTSU MALES (Xikukutsu) & MPHOSA (Mapoza)

The death of the male lion we called Trilogy left a power vacuum in the area round KwaMbili. With enough prey around, the lionesses of the northern pride stayed in their territory but with no male lion scent-marking this territory, surrounding male lions have come in from outside to investigate our part of Thornybush. Fresh blood will mean a new genetic line in the area which helps prevent inbreeding – but it is also great for us to see new lions! At the moment we have what looks to be a loose coalition of 3 males, consisting of one named Mphosa (he has different coloured eyes, which could have been caused by trauma to the side of the head from a hunt or even another male) and two others which are very light in colour and much larger than Mphosa. We call these two the Skukutsu males and they are truly a sight to behold – their sheer size is enough to intimidate one. We are encountering them more and more and hope that they will take over this area so we will be able to see them more regularly in the future but there are no guarantees in the bush. Time will tell!

Birmingham young male :

RE: Lions of Timbavati - Potato - 07-10-2020

Tanda Tula

The next two drives were spent filming a sofa safari in the presence of a gorgeous male cheetah!  He was well fed and spent the day lazing around close to Cheetah Plains, but sadly without the need to hunt, he didn’t get up much.  The last two drives were spent examining lion and leopard tracks without much joy, including tracks for the Mayambula Pride moving fairly deep into the northern parts of their range. These are hopefully signs of trends that can be expected as the pride moves around searching for food and water for their almost adult-sized youngsters.  As frustrating as it was not being able to find the cats we were looking for, it made me realise just how lucky we have been over the past few months to see what we have seen.

The main story from the first part of lockdown was no doubt the constant presence of the River Pride and their growing cubs; from seeing the new litter for the first time back in April to being privileged enough to watch them grow bigger and more confident by the week.  The three Nharhu males made their presence known on an almost nightly basis with their roars, and we became accustomed to finding them on a daily basis (to the point where we would sometimes simply drive on past them in the hope of finding something different, like elephants!).  As this period came to end, the pride became less predictable and moved greater distances – often with the cubs – which made it a little more challenging to track them.  Two of the lionesses have still been mating with the males, and we hope that they too, will have cubs in the not too distant future. This will hopefully anchor the pride to the area once more.

It seems that he is hanging in area between Xikukutsus/Mapoza males and Monwana males.
