Seven versus one...

Kevin Richardson: " Lions suffocate their prey by crushing the windpipe via a throat hold or by clamping over the snout. It’s not the most efficient way to kill when compared to hyena or wild dog but still the notion persists that hyena and wild dog are cruel in the way the kill. This is simply not true as the animal is full of adrenaline and in shock and numb of any pain and is dead way before it would realize what actually just happened, when hyena and wild dog tear into prey on the run. Unlike in The Lion King, lions eat Pumbas also known as warthogs. ".

For a cub, it's always irresistible the lion's tail ending tuft.

Its been said that those 2 lions are from Lubyelubye pride, so they are the Mazithi males, vs unknown intruder:

Back story to the fight above (from Leigh-ann Aingworth Photography):

Quote:So we had just seen an awesome sighting of my fav animal .. yes the Leopard ? and it was up a tree with a kill. After moving on from the causeway along the H4-1 we are told there are two male lions on the river bank about 500m on ... think the chappy meant 5km as we drove for awhile thinking we had missed them ... and then there they were! Since found out it was the Mazithi Brothers who have between them at the moment about 16 cubs! So we parked on the side of the road to take some pics .. then someone pointed out a third lion further up the bank. He was chilling ... yawning etc. Then he started making his way down and we just assumed he was going to join his “brothers” ... he looked very chilled and didn’t approach them aggressively at all ... next minute the brothers are up and all hell breaks loose. My heart nearly jumped out of my chest!! I have seen lions fighting on TV programmes and they are never nice to see!! My finger just presses down on my camera and I click away!!! I actually was so scared for the poor intruder that I didn’t really remember seeing to much just hoping I was getting good pics and also hoping the poor lion lived!!! It was a couple minutes and all over ... the intruder submitted to them and they waltzed off ... they walked away and sat together on the rock whilst the intruder walked off licking his wounds. I have since found out the intruders brother had gotten a beating from the Mantimahle Coalition and at that stage weren’t sure if he had made it ... but just the other day I saw he was back with his brother and they both are looking good ... so my heart is happy!!

It's perhaps the most beautiful lion-walking-in-front photo I have seen: black and luxuriant mane, long head, powerful forelimbs, whether rather windy, mouth a little open, the glance which freezes you... Everything is there !

Kruger National Park - Nsemani Pride Males

these two look huge to me and there is something about their gait and the look of their faces that makes them look like monsters
