RE: Lions of Timbavati - Potato - 02-14-2020 Tanda Tula update The lions were back to their active selves, and we were able to enjoy sightings of the Nharhu males and River Pride females throughout the week, even after the rain. The limping male is doing remarkably well with his injured leg and doesn’t appear to be limping at all anymore! This was really not the outcome I foresaw for him so I am once again pleased that nature has proven me wrong! We got to spend a couple of evenings in the presence of these males as they roared their dominance across the central Timbavatiand we could hear them calling around Tanda Tula Safari Campon most nights this past week. *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author We have not had luck seeing the two mother lions this week. We are waiting with bated breath to see whether or not their litters of cubs survived the floods. The water levels were so high that the flood waters would have rushed straight through their den sites! They are not the first lion cubs to be born during the rainy season and I hope that even with the rising water levels, the cubs would have been able to scamper to safety. Time will tell whether I am being unduly optimistic or if mother nature dealt the pride a cruel blow. Later in the week, a random lioness from the Phalaborwa region of the Kruger was spotted in the heart of the River Pride’s territory and although she has been reported in the Timbavatibefore, it is the first time we have seen her. RE: Lions of Timbavati - Potato - 02-20-2020 NThambo Tree Camp. Guide Elmar Van Niekerk managed to take this insane video clip of the Vuyelas frantically feasting on a kill. What an absolute feeding frenzy, complete with snarls, growls and flesh ripping sounds. A crimson bloodbath that happened right in our property. Thank you Elmar for this MAD clip of our local lions filling their belly. RE: Lions of Timbavati - titose - 02-21-2020 #BlackDamMale #Timbavati The majestic " Black Dam Male". RE: Lions of Timbavati - titose - 02-24-2020 The Nharu Males and their pride were seen every day this week ! After the great rains we had that brought on flash flooding , we are unsure if the cubs they hid at the den in the Zebenine River survived , only time will tell ! This male and one female have been seen mating over the last week , lets hope we will have more cubs in the coming months , usually around three months after conceiving successfully the cubs will be born. rockfigsafarilodgetimbavati. Captured by field guide : Stefan Kruger *This image is copyright of its original author RE: Lions of Timbavati - titose - 02-24-2020 #GiraffeMale #ThornybushGameReserve This male and female lion were spotted resting around the dam the morning after Valentine’s Day. Both had left their respective prides for a few days of mating – Cupid definitely struck here! This lioness couldn’t resist the dark and handsome male – it is a known fact that lionesses are more likely to choose males of darker colour for mating as they are more dominant. The lioness comes from the northern pride and he is the “Giraffe male”, so named because he was the leader of what is known as the Giraffe Pride in Timbavati Game Reserve until he moved from Timbavati to Thornybush Game Reserve. He has since taken over the Thornybush southern pride and now he has been seen with this lioness from the northern pride. This may well mean the start of a new bloodline – and hopefully after about three and a half months we will have new life on the reserve.
