RE: Asiatic Lion - Data, Pictures & Videos - Sanju - 02-22-2019 @Pckts yeah i know what is a warthog. BTW it's not bony protrusion, it is a wart or tumor develops mainly in mature and adult individuals (hence the name 'wart''hog'). Sorry for being harsh, i thought that channel is genuine (coz it's the only channel which produces videos about lions constantly and qualitatively), and confused with the hands of people (like indians) and that indian terrain like place so i didn't watch the video keenly. yeah it's a warthog and an african lion (east african i think). thanks. that youtuber cheated! RE: Asiatic Lion - Data, Pictures & Videos - Sanju - 02-23-2019 @Rishi, I noticed that before posting it but, it is a a representative image of the news source of lion and wild boar felling into well. [[Orelse we can "imagine" there a asian lion chasing a piglet scene coz it is super rare occurrence and capturing such incidents is even more impossible]]. RE: Asiatic Lion - Data, Pictures & Videos - Sanju - 02-23-2019 204 Lions Died in Gir Forest Region in Last Two Years: Gujarat Govt Quote:The government allocated Rs 21.96 crore for lion conservation in Gir in 2017 and Rs 27.89 crore in 2018, while the contribution of the Union government was Rs 1.92 crore and 1.06 crore for the last two years, he said.@Lycaon *This image is copyright of its original author Representative image. Photo: Reuters (I wonder this is how our Asian Lion looks like in our Kuno's grassy plains, don't you agree?) Over 200 lions died in the Gir forest region in the last two years, the Gujarat government told the legislative Assembly on Friday (22/2/2019). Only 27 of these deaths were because of "unnatural" causes such as getting hit by a train or falling into a well, it said. To a query by Congress' Bhagabhai Barad, forest minister Ganpat Vasava, in a written reply, said 110 lions and 94 cubs died in 2017 and 2018. Of the 110 adult lions, 43 died in 2017 and 67 in 2018. Thirty-eight cubs died in 2017 and 56 in 2018, the reply said. Of the 204 deaths, 27 (21 lions and six cubs) were because of "unnatural causes" such as falling into a well or being run over by a train, the minister said. Vasava also said that 331 leopards, including 75 cubs, died in Gujarat forests in the last two years, adding the state government was taking various steps to prevent deaths due to unnatural causes. To a question by Congress MLA Pratap Dudhat about the viral infection among lions last year, Vasava said 34 lions died in the last one year due to diseases including Canine Distemper Virus (CDV) infection. Babesia, Streptococcal bacteria and Gram-negative bacilli infections were also responsible for some of these deaths, the minister said. AJT Johnsingh, ex-dean of Wildlife Institute of India and Indian vertebrate ecologist, said that the lion deaths is alarming. “The figure is high considering the fact that majority births in Gujarat is due to in-breeding. This exposes lions to a high risk of disease outbreak. It is time Gujarat government expedited translocation of 20 lions to Kuno Palpur which is ready for the shift,” said Johnsingh. He warned that this is imperative to protect lions from a complete wipe-out in case of a major disease outbreak. *This image is copyright of its original author Representative image 3,159 open wells in Gir vicinity There are as many as 3,159 open wells in a 5-km radius of Gir sanctuary area, the state government said in the assembly. However, forest minister said that no lions or other protected animals had died or suffered injuries on account of falling in an open well without a parapet wall in Gir sanctuary area in the last two years.
