More fantastic news from Sandrigham, the treasures that place that place kept hidden, are finally getting some light shown upon them. I don't recall there being a male sub with the BDM pride that crossed over, though. @T I N O @Potato @Mapokser @Tr1x24, do any of you recall a male sub in that group that went with Giraffe Male and the partial BD Pride? Also, has that portion of the pride been renamed, or do we have two BD Prides now?

He wouldn’t have been a sub back then, I think what she’s saying is he’s one of, if not the only surviving cub born in 2020 when Giraffe Male and main Black Dam Pride first went into Sandringham.

As for the second part, this is what I was trying to say in my earlier comment. Xikukutsus went into Sandringham with 3 breakaway BD females, and now there’s 5 females in the pride. I wanted to see if it’s possible that some of the additional females are from the original BD Pride, but their count of 20 lions pretty much puts that thought to rest. It was a lil confusing as the lionesses they sired are no longer referred to as subadults, but adult lionesses eventho they’re not even 4 yet, whereas their brothers from either the same or shortly followed litters are still referred to as subadults.

So for those of u that are still with me, it’s impossible for these additional lionesses to be from main BD Pride unless Xikukutsus sired zero females in 2022 and therefore the only females in the pride are still cubs. The main pride with Giraffe Male seem to have disappeared almost completely, minus the male, now making this the main and only Black Dam Pride.

Ah, OK, that makes more sense, I totally misunderstood what she said, and thought she was saying he was older than that. If my memory serves, there were some cubs that went with them, so that makes a lot more sense. Sorry for the confusion.

I also misunderstood what was said about the BD females, as their being the females that crossed with GM. It saddens me to know that none of them are accounted for. While it sucked that GM died at all, that he was killed by other lions, I believe, is a much better end for him, than other possible scenarios, given the history of Sandrigham and poaching. Sabi Sabi buying that place will now remove that option, or at least lower the odds significantly.

I heard about the male lion carcass that was found, back when it was found, with the speculation that it was him, I was asked not so say anything until it was confirmed, and that confirmation never came, but the assumption that he was gone remained. Now, I really wonder what became of the lions that crossed with him, even though it wasn't the entire BD Pride, it was still quite a few, I think it was estimated at the time to have been half of the pride, of which some were cubs, and back then BD Pride was a big pride.

Hi sorry I am having a hard time understanding, but I just have one question. Could this male lion be brother of six black damn male lions?

It would be their younger brother if it’s the male we think it is.

RE: Lions of Timbavati - Tr1x24 - 02-08-2025

@KM600

It says 8 adult females, isnt it possible than that BD merged together again in Sandrigham under Xikukutsus, after demise of GM.

Looks like theres 2-3 quite big young males, not sure if they can be sired by Xikukutsus, as their first BD offspring should be born in later stages of 2021 or 2022 (altough they might be).

Kinda concerned for 2nd Xikukutsus, we still didnt see any photo of him, it says he appears less frequantly, does that mean theres another pride there?
As far as i know Sandrigham should had lions before BDP crossed over.

No idea why I said 5 females, musta been quite tired, I think we’ll prolly find the answer once each member is ID’d. So ye I assume the 3 original females who broke away are still alive, meaning if there’s any lionesses over the age of 4, it’s possible they’re from the original BD Pride.

I also had the same thought about the other males, the one below is definitely theirs, but the two seen in the photos @sunless sent seem to be quite developed for males who shouldn’t even be 4 yet. Only reposted as it’s easier for everyone to comprehend what I’m on about, I don’t think photos are clear enough but wanted to see if that solo male who definitely seems to be GM’s son, is also in the group photo or if there’s actually 2 other decently aged males too. Either these boys have had some crazy growth already, or these actually aren’t Xikukutsus offspring.

There were other lions when they first crossed over but no significant pride I believe, 2 of their main females were killed at the time, with one of them being a white female. I very much imagine there’s other lions out there, but the lack of rangers makes it so much harder to see what’s happening over there. I find it very hard to believe that the other Xikukutsu is splitting off without there being a reason to split off.

RE: Lions of Timbavati - Potato - 02-08-2025

1. There were 4 females that brokeaway from Black Dam pride, 3 daughters of Giraffe male + one older female.

2. Personally I would assume both prides merched, else we would be uupdated about wo different lion prides in Sandringham, not just one.

No last update I saw was end of January in a Tintswalo video (see Manyeleti thread). It looked like she was pulling through quite well. Looked like it was healing.

or I also just found these. But also three weeks ago:

Wow, that injury seems to be healing well. So happy for this girl.

RE: Lions of Timbavati - criollo2mil - 02-12-2025

EDIT: I Left out the Birmingham White Male Sad. So we now have 5

In recent weeks, news of the White lions in Greater Kruger has been mixed.

On the good news side, we were treated with a good update that the Black Dam Pride on the Sandringham property has a young white male cub raising the count of known white lions to 4 (Casper, White Birmingham Princess, Young Female Birmingham Cub, and New BD male cub).

But news has also been less than ideal, with Casper not looking his fittest and another of his brothers looking very very frail.    Then we saw the young female cub of the Birmingham with a severel wound on her face.    Not even a week later, the white princess herself was also seen w new fácial wounds and injuries.

Well, maybe now another positive news if true.

A video of a white cub started circulating on social media this week.    Attempts to contact author to discern timeline and location were a bit spotty but new information suggests it’s recent and while still trying to confirm, May even be a cub from the Skorro Pride and sired by the Mongawane.

We will continue to nail down accuracy but It would be amazing to add bother white lion and the first in a different area (Orpen)
