RE: Lions of Timbavati - Mwk85 - 01-08-2025 Was definitely surprise to see this. Footage is potentially from today, 7th of January. And he seems to still have some pep in his step. All things considered, he looks pretty good. Looks like something had a good go at biting his tail off (possibly a hyena, as that's how lions tend to lose their tails). Still got that stuff going on with his mane and neck, but what a tough guy! RE: Lions of Timbavati - Fenix123 - 01-09-2025 Four Birmingham Breakaway Males were seen in Shumbalala game lodge Credits to gmitchley_wildlifephotography RE: Lions of Timbavati - Mapokser - 01-09-2025 BDM territory. My impression is that 3/4 BDM wouldn't have a problem with them but I might be overestimating them, we haven't seen the BDM clashing against dominant males or in similar numbers after all. Are BBreakaways "official" territorial around Shindzela area? If BDMs dont group as 4, BBreakaways have numerical advantage, even without sick Ilanga. But i think BBreaaways are yet to show their real strenght, as young Monwanas and old Ross males are not exactly real challenge for them. They lost fairly easy to Vuyelas further north. Problem for BBreakaways is that they only have their natal pride in that area, unless they want to challenge other males near by. Vuyelas were too massive for these boys back then. Guess even now nothing would change in that regard. RE: Lions of Timbavati - Mapokser - 01-13-2025 @Tr1x24 BBreakaways are the Kambulas of Timbavati, they are exactly like their distant Kambula cousins. We thought they'd be dominant a gazillion times before but always ended up wandering around and couldn't handle Vuyelas not even trying, the Mayambula pride were theirs, but they abandoned it due to passive pressure, Vuyelas didn't even show up in big numbers to oust them, IIRC 2 or 3 Vuyelas chased them once and they gave up completely, going full nomadic again. They were only able to oust lone Hercules male but by the looks of it, just like Kambulas, they are still semi-nomadic despite their age, numbers and opportunities. BDM are fully dominant for a long time now and seems to be a proactive coalition so I'd expect them to deal with the BB if necessary, unless they pull a S.BDM off and lose to passive seminomadic males like their brothers did. I don't expect, however, that the fourth BDM would help, he likes to stick to his own territory with his own small pride, not joining the others in their expansion and adventures, and also doesn't hang out with their 2 main prides. If someone invades I'd expect the 3 more dominant brothers to be on their own, so if BB were to show up in a fully territorial manner, they'd have the advantage, but like I said, I don't expect it from them. BB are definitelly on more difficult arena. Yet somehow the northern BDM carved out their pride and territory earlier than both the kambulas/bboys breakaway. Situation like that reminds me of the two southern avocas beating out the three same age group majigilanes tsalalas. It's like the saying "when you have it, you have it." RE: Lions of Timbavati - KM600 - 01-13-2025 (01-13-2025, 02:17 PM)Robot00 Wrote:(01-13-2025, 12:49 AM)Tr1x24 Wrote: 3/5 BBreakaway males, Kovu and Dzombo in front, Madzinyo behind:So it is just five of them now? First it was the oldest that went missing because he was injured? When was the sixth gone? Birmingham breakaways and Kambulas are pretty much all around the same age ye, I think BDMs are a year older, difference is Birmingham breakaways have been pressured by Vuyelas recently, not like it’s some random duo or whatever, they’re prolly the most powerful coalition in the area. Birmingham breakaways have had no issue tracking and beating up Hercules then mating with females of Giraffe Pride. If they were in an easier area like Manyeleti they’d already have been pride males for over a year. Kambulas have only been challenged by duos who they obviously largely outnumber, but never stick around. Even just yesterday they were seen in Umkumbe. Just makes me feel for Nkuhuma Pride, especially with atleast one heavily pregnant female. I agree with the part about some coalitions just ‘having it in them,’ look at current Nkuhuma boys. Left Sabi Sands and went straight into KNP, despite retuning back to Sabi Sands a few times they always went back to Rhino Post and never gave up trying to be dominant in that area. Chelas boy has been seen with a few cuts recently which aside from fighting for mating rights, means they’ve officially carved out their own territory. RE: Lions of Timbavati - Tr1x24 - 01-13-2025 When did BBreakaways beat and ousted Hercules? Did I miss something? Regardless, Kambulas neither have problems vs solo territorial males, and BBreakaways didnt beat any territorial duo neither, despite hanging in their territories, like their fathers Ross males and Skorros. They only started to be seen with Mayambulas when Vuyelas beat Skorros, only to be defeated by them later. As for age, Kovu is born in 2017, Madzinyo maybe aswell, or very early 2018. Ilanga, now sick male, is also around their age. Dzombo and Indlebe are younger, they are the age of Kambulas. So overall, 3/5 of BBreakaways are older than Kambulas for atleast half a year (maybe more). N.BDMs are born around mid 2017, they are the age of PCMs, 1 year older than Kambulas. S.BDMs (and possibly 4th male) are few months younger, born towards late 2017. For info we have, i think Kambulas and BBreakaways are very similar in behaviour so far, they will bully other nomads and lone territorial males, but still "dont have it" for more serious competition. I think BBreakaways might also have teamplay, bond and trust issues, i remember their nomadic journey, they where always scattered all over the place, younger ones haging alone, Ilanga was loner, Kovu often with natal pride, so that might be factor aswell. Both coalition are entering prime years, so its yet to be see if this will change. |
