This is actually huge, as i think there was no sighting of Xikukutsu thru 2023 and 2024 (until this photo).

If i remember correctly, last time 2 Xikukutsus where seen was in September 2022, when they returned in former territory of Monwanas, but got pushed back by their ex partner/stepdad Mapoza.

Shortly after 4 BDMs established in Thornybush and Xikukutsus never returned.

Also, this Xikukutsu is spitting image of "Pale" old Avoca/Giraffe male.

WOW, both of them has a really distinct faces that is different from other lions in the Greater Kruger.

As other have said before that Black Dam Pride or to be more general Thornybush lions has a different gene pool compared to the Timbavati and Kruger lions, then where does the Xikukutsus came from did they also come from the Thornybush lions that is fenced or from other parts of Kruger?

Xikukutsus are 100% Timbavati lions gene pool wise. Lionesses is 50/50 as her father was Giraffe male lion.

No, Xikukutsus come from Avoca pride, born December 2015, sired by old Avoca/Giraffe males (before was speculated that Ross males sired them, but thats not the case, as they look very similar to Avoca/Giraffes, and Ross males mated too late based of evidence).

They are younger brothers of S. and N.Avocas who went to Sabi Sands, they where ~ 1 year old cubs when the Sabi Sand Avocas left their natal pride.

Later, neither Ross males nor Mapoza didnt kill them when they takeover Avoca pride, which is "miracle" itself.

As they matured, they become coalition partners of Mapoza and in 2020 they expanded west and takeover Monwanas.

Later in 2021 they kinda split, Mapoza stayed with Monwanas, while 2 Xikukutsus expanded south into Thornybush, taking over BD pride and ousting 6 BDMs.

In 2022 they split completley from Mapoza, and moved far south and into Sandrigham, while 4 BDMs establish themselves between them and Mapoza.

Happy New Year guys!

@Tr1x24 Great find on the Xikukutsu Male, hope his brother is also alive and kicking although a lot can happen since that photo was taken. This does however cast further doubt on the fate of the remaining Black Dam Pride members and also Giraffe Male who wasn’t sighted again since entering Sandringham.

Fantastic news! Xakubasa the white lion has been seen on Umbabat again! We saw him briefly late last night with a female and a tawny male. The tawny male has been missing in action recently, so it is a relief to see the two back together again. What a way to ring in the New Year!

The attached photo is from a prior sighting as we couldn't get a photo last night

4/6 Monwana Boys
wil_lions_life Great sighting of 4 of the 6 young Monwana males at Singita (Sabi Sands), they have been there for a few days now exploring the area and hunting, two nights ago they chased a giraffe and three of them gave up, one of them persisted and killed a huge giraffe by himself and the other boys not knowing about this great feat by their brother dispersed and were found attempting to hunt buffalo this morning, we hope they all 4 reunite and stick together, the sons of Mapoza male are strong and very brave, they will soon try to claim their own territory.

RE: Lions of Timbavati - Mapokser - 01-07-2025

If they aren't dealt with quickly, they could soon overpower the current duos because they aren't anything like the Kambulas.

3 of these guys were able to chase 2 old territorial and in top condition Ross males from a kill in their own territory months ago, and one of the older Monwana chased the much older Birmingham Nephew as well.

There's even the possibility from a report that a Monwana chased Shaka Mbiri from a kill.

Once these guys turn 5, or even before, I doubt even the likes of PCM would be able to beat them.

Hi I had a question. I do not know who the male lions are. They are Mapoza sons? How many sons does Mapoza male lions have? They are six? Could they also be sons of Avoca relatives?
