Yea, he is actually very close from 14 yrs old (born around December 2010).

He is definetly one of the oldest males in Kruger.

I am not suprised Tyson vanished first, as agressive one, he prob didnt back down vs younger rivals, as we saw not long ago vs young Monwana.

Kinda shame that they where/are vastly outnumbered by Bbreakaways and Monwanas, as they otherwise looked in good condition for their age.

Anyone know last sighting of Tyson?

There was a video of Tyson, I believe it was a couple of months ago. He was showing his age, a little thin. I don't recall hearing about him after that. I believe they are the most successful 2 male coalition I can think of, and possibly the longest reigning as well.

They're officially calling it on Mapoza being no more. While it'd be great to see him pop back up I know the odds of that happening are slim to none. Fortunately though, he left behind numerous offspring that'll hopefully be able to continue adding to the wild lion population.

Thats definitely a Vuyela male

What a great legacy he left behind, I know he was a favorite for many lion fans, justifiably so, and he left us with so many great memories of him. He did an amazing job, for a solo male lion, surrounded by larger coalitions for years.

There’s a real sense of ‘changing of the guard’ taking place right now in terms of the dominant males in Timbavati and surrounding regions with Mapoza gone, Ross Males seemingly on the way out and Mbiris also ageing but so far holding on. Vuyelas and Black Dams have established as the undisputed strongest coalitions and then you’ve got the upcoming Birmingham Breakaways and Monwana Males. Couple of solo males in Hercules and Giraffe/Makeppies Male will have to be careful surrounded by all these big coalitions. 2025 will be a year of transition for all the prides involved.

Another thought, where on earth is the Southern Black Dam Male who left his brother and moved back up there? Sure his last couple of sightings he was hanging with the young Avoca male but seems like nothing on those two in ages.

Add to that Nharhu male getting killed by another young raising coalition in a form of 4 young River males.

All very good points. Change is inevitable for all of us, but in this case, it does appear that massive change, for so many lions, is going to be condensed into a relatively brief period of time.

As for the SBDM and Avoca Male, I have not heard anything on either, in quite some time. I inquired about the SBDM a few weeks back, and nobody had heard anything on his whereabouts.

RE: Lions of Timbavati - adamstocks16 - 11-14-2024

@Potato yeah that too, have those young males begun their takeover of Western Pride yet? The young male in the pride was also given a beating, it would be nice to see him succeed as legacy of the Skorro Males whose reign ended so abruptly.

@BA0701 It’s quite concerning the lack of sightings of these two, however if the recent reappearance of the Skorro Male (son of Junior & Buddy) is anything to go by there is every chance they’re still out there and we’ll get an update soon.
