What a spectecular sighting indeed, wow. Happy to see all 5 of them are still alive and now - after they were sighted last months in several numbers - together. A force to be reckoned with... their self confidence for their age is fascinating.

Edit: speaking of these boys, do we know if all 5 of them from the same litter? Their manes and body development is very similar. Either same litter or two litters were close I guess. All sired by Mapoza or did he have a partner during that time?

4 should be older, 2 younger.

Xikukutsus also prob sired some, some older ones.

RE: Lions of Timbavati - Mapokser - 10-14-2024

Gotta get confirmation from the source, for me, the report, due to the use of "and" instead of something else, meant the pride was chased by the Monwana male, not the Mbiri male was chased by him.

But maybe he meant something else and the grammar is off.

If 1 Monwana chased Shaka off, even if an old one, out of prime, it's extremely impressive given Monwana's age and nomadic status.

But I'm skeptical because not long ago 3 Monwana were chased off by the 2 Ross ( after initially chasing them off ), and again 3 of them were chased off by Red Road.

If one of them can chase off a dominant Mbiri male, one could think that, being 5, they wouldn't even be on the run from 3 N.BDM, and would be territorial already.

And extremely unlikely...

Indeed. At 3 and half years old even such a powerhouses like Mbiris, Charlestons or current Plains Camp males wouldn't take on such a strong adult male as Shaka Mbiri.

1 of Monwana males alone chased of Shaka or Monwana pride?

As article suggest, we might be in for a big shift in this southern Timbavati area, as Ross's, Hercules's and maybe even Mbiris time might be up, as looks like they cant displace Birmingham Breakaways and up and coming young Monwanas.

Any news on Birmingham nephew? He was in this area and mating with BBreakaway female, nothing on him recently, hope he didnt get caught by someone.

Also where is young Avoca?

The young klaserie river pride males also seems to be moving towards timbavati, they have been seen in the territory of the western pride, they have numbers and are well developed so if they try to establish themselves in the area it would be another big problem for the territorial males

Update, the River Pride males have killed Skorokoro.

RE: Lions of Timbavati - adamstocks16 - 10-19-2024

This is really sad news, he has done so well on his own with that limp after losing both his brothers.

Birmingham Breakaway males pushing deep into Giraffe pride territory. The 5 brothers are making their presence known in the area.

Originally posted on X by Rockfig Lodge, apparently when Rockfig says they'll get you close to the wildlife, they mean really close. The Sark Breakaway Pride decided to crash  a nice little dinner and a drink in the bush.

Mbiri males with a Birmingham female a cub:

Young Western pride male will be alright after RPMs attack:

RE: Lions of Timbavati - Mapokser - 10-21-2024

I hope the other subs are fine and the Skorro son can join his cousin sired by Skorokoro.

But anyway, this week on Ngala they had 10 members of the Mayambula pride, the Birmingham pride and SIX Monwama males.

If that one Monwana truly chased Shaka off, then having 6 of them in Mbiri territory might end badly.

RE: Lions of Timbavati - Mapokser - 10-22-2024

And then the 6 Monwanas got into a fight with other lions last night and were apparently split, they have minor injuries and are looking for each other to rejoin:

Both the Mayambula and Birmingham prides were around but 10 Mayambulas, all females and 2yo subadults wouldn't be a challenge for the Monwanas, so my guess is that they bumped into the Birmingham pride and Mbiri males.

If the Mbiris were involved, and these boys made it out with only minor injuries, they should all go out and buy a lottery ticket right away!

RE: Lions of Timbavati - adamstocks16 - 10-23-2024

@Ngonya those images you shared of the Birmingham Breakaways does Ilanga have some health problems or just a considerably underdeveloped mane in comparison to his brothers? I’m not 100% clued up on these boys but from my understanding Kovu is the oldest then Ilanga and Madinzyo, then I believe there was three younger males Indlebe, Dzombo and Gulayo. Is this still the case or did something happen to one of the latter two? Remember that Gulayo wasn’t in great condition but I don’t follow them that closely so not sure on their current status.
