RE: Cheetah Reintroduction in India - Sanju - 04-24-2019 Nauradehi Sanctuary is getting prepared to be international park with Cheetah Project The Nauradehi Sanctuary which is spread across Damoh district of MP is being prepared by the Forest Department to become International Park. For the last one year, the sanctuary is under major developments. This will make this sanctuary a role model icon to the entire country of India. Information has been received that bigger park than this sanctuary will not be there in the whole country. It is because the Nauradehi area is 1200 sq km. There is no bigger sanctuary anywhere in the state. Nauradehi DFO told that after his visit to South Africa, he decided to get this sanctuary recognized in the country. Drone Camera Vigilance Nauradehi Sanctuary is located in the three district of MP namely Sagar, Damoh and Narsinghpur. It is under process of notifying as National Park, as reintroduced tiger radha -kishan pair are roaming around here. After this, Dr Ankur Awadhiya, who is working as DFO, decided to develop this sanctuary further. For the protection of the sanctuary, he made the proposal of drone camera as a third eye and sent this proposal to Bhopal. After approval from there, drones setup here was done. The sanctuary is getting much benefit from it. When Sagar CCF Akhilesh Singh Tiwari took stock of these issues, he also praised them. Now there is information that all the forests in the state will be guarding the drones 24*7. From a long time ago, the works are being done to declare Nauradehi Sanctuary as National Park which are continuing to this day. For this, wild animals are brought here from Panna Tiger Reserve. Because a large part of the Panna Tiger Reserve is coming in the submerged area due to the dam being built under the na-Betwa link project. Therefore, the wildlife corridor is being prepared from Panna to Nauradehi, whereby wild animals of Panna Tiger Reserve can easily migrate to Nauradehi Sanctuary, but now the sanctuary is making efforts to make an international park. For this, it has been included in the ten-year executive plan. Nauradehi DFO Ankur Awadhiya went to South Africa and saw the international sanctuaries and reserves there and accordingly, efforts were made to develop the Nauradehi Sanctuary. Cheetah will be brought shortly The project to bring cheetahs from South Africa is underway. Significantly, cheetahs are found in India in the past and now they will be brought from South Africa to the Nauradehi Sanctuary. According to information received from the sources, approval of cheetah relocation is done. In this regard, Niradehi DFO Ankur said that it is true that efforts of Nauradehi to make International standard reserve are going fast. All the efforts that have come so far have been successful. Drone Camera are working very well. In connection with his visit to South Africa, he told that soon Nauradehi is going to get Cheetahs. This is a desolate jungle for past many years, is going to join the National Park category. Help from Belgian Shepard Dog alongwith Drone Cameras Not only the vastness of the Nauradehi Sanctuary, the dedication for protection of wild animals is also significant here, for this the management is continuously making efforts. For which Nauradehi DFO Mr. Awadhiya had demanded the drone cameras from the regime . Two cameras out of four cameras have reached here and these two drones are being guarding Nauradehi. These cats are keeping a close eye even at high altitude. At the same time, the Belgian Shepard Dog has also been brought here to sneak the hunters n poachers, which has so far caught ten poachers. This has prevented hunting and illegal harvesting to a great extent here. Nauradehi Sanctuary is going to be National and International Park : officials. After the recommendation of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), made things really fast. There are preparations for shifting 30 cheetahs in the Nauradehi Sanctuary. These cheetahs will be brought from South Africa and Namibia. Since the cheetahs are thrive in grasslands, the grass is spread in about 400 square kilometers in the sanctuary has also been vacant after the displacement of the village. That is, almost the area of the Panna tiger reserve (450 sq km), has been evacuated for cheetahs.
Project was prepared almost eight years ago
According to the plan, Project Cheetahs to the Nauradehi Sanctuary was prepared almost eight years ago. For this, about Rs. 3000 crores was prepared, including expenditure on the displacement of villages residing among the sanctuary. At the time of preparing the proposal, only 23 villages should be displaced, but gradually their number has reached 38 and so far 12 villages have been completely displaced. Expert team doing studies
According to information received from the forest department, a 15-to-18 member committee of the Nauradehi Sanctuary is working for it to make a tigers and cheetahs home in Nauradehi. It includes State Forest Research Institute, Jabalpur Veterinary Medical College and Wild Life Scientists. Experts maintain timely feedback on the impact of climate change, biodiversity in the sanctuary. There are thousands of wild animal species
Founded in the year 1975, there are thousands of animal species in the Nauradehi Sanctuary. The sanctuary area is spread over an area of about 1197 sq. Km, which covers three districts, Sagar, Narsinghpur and Damoh in its borders. Due to Biodiversity, the Nauradehi Wildlife Sanctuary is unique. In addition to many big ponds and lakes to quench the thirst of animals, the life-giving rivers: Byarama and Bamaner fulfills needs of water even in dry season.
Wildlife
In the sanctuary, the tigers, leopards, wolves, wild boar, Golden jackals, Dhole, hyena, fox, bears, chinkara, chital deer, Nilgai, Black backed Jackals, mugger crocodile, sambar and many other wildlife are found in this area. According to departmental information, the number of leopards have started to grow in the Sanctuary since last one year, whereas the number of chital, deer and chinkara is also increasing steadily.
12 villages are completely displaced
Geographically and naturally, the Nauradehi Sanctuary is a suitable place for all types of wildlife besides tigers and leopards. This is the reason that about 37 villages residing in the sanctuary are being displaced. So far, 12 villages have been completely shifted from here, whereas the amount of displacement has reached the bank accounts of two more villages. 25 villages displacement budget has reached the accounts of the three districts of Sagar, Damoh and Narsinghpur collectors. This amount has come in installments, it is being said that at present, the each district collector accounts have an amount of about 433 crore rupees.
These are the arrangements
- Night Vision cameras are installed in the sanctuary.
- Monitored by the drones.
- After the arrival of the tigers, tiger task force teams are constantly active.
- Grasslands and other savanana habitats have been developed.
- For safety brought to the Belgian Shepard Dogs are under patrol.
Sanctuary is fully prepared
Forest department team and Sanctuary are fully prepared for Cheetahs. Around 400 sq. Km of grounds have been evacuated for cheetah habitat. We will start the process of bringing cheetahs soon. Dr. Ankur Awadhiya, DFO, Nauradehi Sanctuary
