RE: Asiatic Lion - Data, Pictures & Videos - Sanju - 02-01-2019 Gujarat’s Project Lion gets Centre’s nod Himanshu Kaushik | TNN | Feb 1, 2019, 06:44 IST ![]() *This image is copyright of its original author Image used for representational purpose only AHMEDABAD: Following vehement opposition by the Gujarat (Disgusting ![]() “We were told by several officials that they had reservations about NTCA being the monitoring agency. The state is reported to have represented against NTCA monitoring in lion conservation, and the WII proposal was rejected,” said a senior official from the Union forest ministry. ![]() *This image is copyright of its original author The state’s Project Lion involves building a veterinary hospital in Sasan, lion rescue centres, deployment of drones to keep track of lions and wildlife, recruitment of 100-odd trackers, building 33 rapid response teams, and installing CCTV cameras at forest entry points for lion conservation. The state government has prepared the project keeping in mind local needs, said a senior Gujarat forest department official. Principal chief conservator of forest (wildlife) A K Saxena said, “The Union forest ministry has communicated to us that the Gujarat project has been accepted and will be funded by the ministry. The project, which was sent after the CDV outbreak will ensure that conservation of lions gets a boost. We have added veterinary treatment and disease monitoring in the project. I am not aware of the WII project but can only say that the project submitted by Gujarat has been accepted.” Senior officials from the WII said that after the outbreak of the canine distemper virus (CDV) disease in which 27 lions died, the Union forest ministry had asked the WII to prepare a project for conserving lions in Gujarat. The WII had prepared a detailed project and submitted the same to the ministry, which in its turn sought the opinion of the state government. https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/ahmedabad/gujarats-project-lion-gets-centres-nod/articleshow/67781808.cms RE: Asiatic Lion - Data, Pictures & Videos - Rishi - 02-01-2019 (02-01-2019, 10:05 AM)Sanju Wrote: @Rishi See. I knew this man. Don't under estimate the Power of Gujarat or BJP government ! A Big Salute on behalf of the Nation. Don't let sentiments cloud your judgement! Keep personal & political opinions off the forum please. Keep criticism critical, not emotional. Gujarat govt. project has more than 3 times the budget allocation, covering many important steps. I wouldn't comment on their own intra-state relocation & vaccination plans until i have more on it... given our dumb reporters didn't bother to ask any follow-up questions on those. How does strict surveillance & response make Gir "technically a zoo"? Edit: @Sanju my intention was not to spite you. 1. Treatment/vaccination of wild lions may be a controversial step, but without that annual lion-mortality would be even higher... & guess who'd be blamed for it. 2. Without active enforcement (or en masse relocation of almost 300 lions) the harrassment & baiting problems are only going to increase with time... again, guess who'd be blamed for it. 3. Only way to hope to reduce lion deaths on rail tracks, is either fencing along the railway line, or shutting down the railway line...You know which one will it be. They may not be taking all of the necessary steps, but these are some of the necessary steps. Not taking all the necessary steps should be the reason for criticism, the few necessary steps being taken shouldn't... I wouldn't comment on their own intra-state relocation & vaccination plans until i have more on it... given our dumb reporters didn't bother to ask any follow-up questions on those.Ok Let's see, Why they are avoiding the WII and NTCA Control over Lion conservation? why bounding to their own state manipulation? W** is the necessary for building damn numerous Safari Parks? To reduce pressure on Gir? LOL. or to make money with unauthorized Safari Parks? aren't there any asiatic lion safari parks in other states or countries? Can't they build them? How much more they can bring up the lion number? 1000 or 2000 or 3000? No matter how strong they weave stories of lion-human coexistence? No one ever know what's happening in real. Aren't they concentrated in one Place? Leave about Kuno and others, what happened to Barda, this is not the first time, Barda only is showed when kuno issue is fired and after that, everything is goes back to corner... Afraid of intra state lion distribution too? During the thirteen days of Diwali the national park and the Gir Interpretation Centre saw over 70000 visitors. The source has a point. Devaliya park saw over 6000 tourists on a single day on Sunday, November 11. The park had also recently introduced gipsy's to ferry tourists while an earlier only limited number of minibuses were allowed. This was done to cater to the tourist rush. Millions of Income directly and indirectly. Rampant permission in sand mining and timber collection illegally around gir periphery zone destroying corridors. Only in Zoo or rescue center this level protection can be seen. These lions are the sentinalese of the lion world. People must understand that how bad they are living currently. They should not end like caspian, bali and javan tigers... and "Investing" 100's of crores in showing off and using public money like that to benefit in lion monopoly is no way near helpful for them in long term. Who are those people that don't know "Reintroduction of Zoo specimens or relocation of wild animals to their historic range is a conservation tool"? But they know the importance of relocation when comes to "intra-state" in relocation of mugger crocodiles from "Statue of Unity" to other place in Narmada, separating from their homes and disrupting the ecology. What's the need to build a fence with thousands of kilometres around the sanctuaries, like it was a big zoo enclosure where animals have no freedom and should inbreed? If an outbreak occurs, lions which can tolerate and resist the disease should live others should die that's' the natural policy and Survival of the fittest, what's need to continue the genetic line of lower individuals and inbreeding them again and protecting them through vaccination? Show any reserve or country does so? It sounds like an international border with all such 24*7 CCTV surveillance, drones, hospitals and rescue centers etc.., etc..., showing off? ![]() *This image is copyright of its original author I though at least WII project is better but things have been worsen. I don't care, support and show no mercy to anthropocentric people who are detrimental to the Environment and nature and show no bias even the consequences are bad. Think in every possible positive way by stepping into their shoes, will end up with negative and marketing concern of views. RE: Asiatic Lion - Data, Pictures & Videos - Rishi - 02-01-2019 My last post (edited) already covers some of it, i'm doing just the rest. As long as they fill it with lions from Sasan, Sakkarbaug etc. i'm happy for them getting out of this; Quote:How much more they can bring up the lion number? 1000 or 2000 or 3000? These are basic issues that still remain... but the Barda or Kuno relocation wouldn't solve them either. Nor would collaring of lions & vaccination of cattles & dogs. Quote:...relocation of mugger crocodiles from "Statue of Unity" to other place in Narmada, separating from their homes and disrupting the ecology. These 2 are incorrect claims. The muggers were brought there, rescued from other places (i don't they'll be able to move that many of them all). Gir is not being fenced around it like South African reserves. Not is there any such plans. RE: Asiatic Lion - Data, Pictures & Videos - Sanju - 02-01-2019 (02-01-2019, 12:15 PM)Rishi Wrote: Gir is not being fenced around it like South African reserves. Yes, neither of them will decrease man and animal conflict but they will do greater good in best interest towards lion standards. Far better than crores of investment. Why are there no quality videos of asiatic lions hunting nilgai and sambar deer .? RE: Asiatic Lion - Data, Pictures & Videos - Sanju - 02-04-2019 (02-04-2019, 05:15 PM)Lycaon Wrote: Just a general question. This question is asked before by someone in previous pages. LOL. You won't see them coz Asiatic lion hunting wild prey these days is quite rare and other than that, filming is not usually allowed or it is difficult to film in forest than in Savanna but at the same time in India, tiger hunting is filmed in "jungles" since many years but don't know the mystery of not filming lion chasing cheetal or nilgai, even though allowed, we can only see start of the hunt and lions feeding on them in all documentaries on wild Asian lions. There are some videos of Gir Lion hunting camel which are domesticated. @Rishi can explain better than me in this topic. I'll try. I watched many...... Asian lion videos. but no video like this "type" African Lion hunting full chase, neck bite and fighting with prey is not filmed on Gir lions may be because they don't hunt or it isn't allowed to film. I think it is the only video that I posted before, that shot this clip of Asiatic lion clamping its jaws into deer and dragging its kill after hunt. See the full video... RE: Asiatic Lion - Data, Pictures & Videos - Lycaon - 02-04-2019 @Sanju This is somewhat disappointing would be really great to see full hunts by asiatic lion on wild prey. |
