Watching this makes me think why people think a lion or a tiger could overpower a bear.

bears that size and up are too much for the bigcats..that's alot of raw power...

Let's focus on what actually happens to the bears, like perhaps what happens between Amur tigers and Ussuri brown bears, rather than speculate what would happen if animals that wouldn't meet them in the wild had a fight with them (an answer existing in cases like these: https://books.google.com/books?dq=lion+fights+bear+kills+dead&ei=xHkGUMzXDuil2AXP1_DDBQ&hl=en&id=nhhdJ-fkywYC&lpg=PA12&ots=1Nw9g0BYw1&pg=PA12&sa=X&sig=awold4MzsrWOIwxuDRUqG6nU04M&source=bl&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q=lion%20fights%20bear%20kills%20dead&f=falsehttps://books.google.com/books?dq=african+lions+paw+blow+bear&ei=6zR_U8D1HNDdoATcioFI&hl=en&id=Io5NAAAAcAAJ&pg=PA195&sa=X&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q=african%20lions%20paw%20blow%20bear&f=false https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/AS19080523.2.129), shall we?

RE: Brown Bears (Info, Pics and Videos) - Luipaard - 06-29-2019

Well all I know is that Siberian tigers only target sub-adults or sows. They actually avoid males.

Bears also benefit from tigers becouse they can scavenge from them instead of hunting by themselves.

Watching this makes me think why people think a lion or a tiger could overpower a bear.

What comes to confrontations between big carnivores, reasonable discussions are usually impossible. Many discussion threads are full of fanatic hotheads, who want only to "win" debate. For them facts are just something dull to ruin a good story.

Here in thread On the edge of extinction-A-The tiger has been dealt relationship between Ussuri brown bear-Amur tiger more than enough. Old cases/information recycled many times, so if someone is interested to look closer, there can be found quite a lot. It is best to leave that issue there.

If some new member haven´t seen those discussion, then I will warn this much. Unless someone doesn´t have something new, published 2019, do NOT put here links. Those all have been seen more than enough times and nothing new, what couldn´t be found from extinction thread. And if someone finds something new, post those there, where that topic is/has been already discussed.

I put some main things here just if someone is interested and really haven´t seen before discussions here in wildfact.

1. Yes, tigers are known to hunt also brown bears, but known cases (at least so far) are females and cubs/young ones. Not adult males.
2. There are some claimed cases, 3-4 in about 200 years, where there might have been tiger attacking adult male brown bear, but confirmed cases, 0, none.
3. Adult male brown bears and adult male tigers seem to avoid confrontations. There are observations about both species, that avoiding each others. Bears have killed some reasonable sized male tigers, but oldest  was estimated to be about 3 years old and that isn´t yet tiger in his prime.
4. This topic is really so worn out, that only more worn out topic can be endless tiger-lion yes-no virtual war.

So yes, in this video there are two really good looking adult male brown bears. Very comparable with their "brothers" who live side by side with Amur tigers. But female bears are clearly smaller and they can´t feel as secure as males when tigers are near.

Some people want to say, that tigers "dominate" bears, because they kill more bears than vice versa. That is one way to look at it, but then again it can be asked, that who forgot to tell that to male bears?

That is pretty much all relevant about this issue, when putting a complex issue in a very rough overall summary. People are naturally free to believe whatever they want, but all have to remember, that others are free to keep their believes too when there isn´t enough information to prove something all the way.

This topic is best to leave to rest unless some new information comes up. If old information is tried to share here now, I will remove those postings. There is no point to pollute one more thread with same old tables, studies, articles and who knows what. This thread is and will be about brown bears in the same way as tiger thread is about tigers.

RE: Brown Bears (Info, Pics and Videos) - Shadow - 06-29-2019

One good photo to show what kind of size difference there can be between female and male brown bear. Photo like this can really open up reality better than writing many sentences. Naturalluy there are exceptional females time to time, but usually size difference is clear.

RE: Brown Bears (Info, Pics and Videos) - Shadow - 07-01-2019

This is one interesting video. Bear is absolutely massive. Some say, that this is Kodiak bear, why not, it could be. Then some say, that it is captive bear and this is Kobalt toolbox commercial. Here comes but... But even though there are claims, that captive, no-one seems to say what bear, owned by whom? And what commercial, is there somewehere really advertisement of Kobalt toolbox, where this footage is used? This isn´t that old, someone should be able to identify this, if really advertisement and tell something more.

So does someone here know anything about it, that is this captive bear and is this footage for advertisement?

It would be nice to know because I couldn´t find with quick search anything solid to indicate, that this wouldn´t be real encounter with a bear. Edited video of course, but instead of showing how bear plays with a box 5-30 minutes, some editing is understandable....

LIVE broadcast, 360 camera right now from bear feeding place. Wild bears visiting there. Still some time possible to watch it and you can turn screen 360 degrees. Also sounds are there. Place is Raate in Suomussalmi, Finland.

RE: Brown Bears (Info, Pics and Videos) - Shadow - 07-13-2019

This links is to article, where are some videos from that 360 camera recorded earlier.

First is where female bear charges to male bear and forces it to leave feeding place.
Second is when big male charges another male and forces it leave the place.
In third male bear finds wiring to camera, but luckily doesn´t cut it.
Fourth is bear mommy with cubs.
In fifth mommy leads cubs away from feeding place.

I am not sure if these videos are visible to all, but you can try. Live broadcast is still there maybe 8-12 hours, there isn´t exact time when it is stopped. Now is the best time to see bears there still about 6,5 hours.
Here is photo, where you can see that camera installed to feeding place.

There is possibility to adjust image quality and rewind footage about 12 hours, so you can look quickly if there has been earlier something interesting.

RE: Brown Bears (Info, Pics and Videos) - Shadow - 07-13-2019

Brown bear - King of the forest, as they are called here up north. Spectacular to see in wildlife.... so you can imagine, that Ömer Acar was confused and thrilled, when he was filming in Kainuu, Finland and suddenly there were approximately 30 (!) bears.... he managed to get about 20 at same time on the screen at best. All bears on video are females, cubs or young males and that explains pretty much why this kind of gathering was possible at all. This is something what I have never seen or heard before, that so many bears like this in same place.

I hope that this video can be watched by most who want to see.

This should uploaded on the Wildfact Youtube channel, how rare is this! Any explanation why they were gathered?

That's insane. Almost looks fake. @brotherbear have you seen or heard of anything like this before?

This is one place, where people can go to film and take photos of bears, in these places there is usually feeding place too. Many times there can be a few bears same time, unless adult dominant male appears. 3-5 is nothing special, but this might be "once in a lifetime" experience, where everything just "clicked". I have to check out a bit, if anything like this has been ever seen in this small area.

Something like this is maybe nothing too special, what comes to numbers in Alaska and rivers with Salmon. But with these inland brown bears this is really something.
