RE: Lions of Timbavati - Mapokser - 08-29-2023 Did this Sark male just replicated the feat of Nhlanguleni and Dozie, of ousting a coalition of 2 by himself? Report from Tshukudu Bush Camp is that 1 of 2 resident males has been killed in a 1 v 1 fight, the photographer said that he lost his territory to a younger male, the prime candidate being the Sark Breakaway male who has moved into the vicinity in the last few months. Image and report from Tyler Ousthuizen, August 13, 2023 *This image is copyright of its original author Apparently the male killed was 7yo. But I'm not sure how reliable is all of this since a friend sent me this saying he saw it on facebook. RE: Lions of Timbavati - Horizon - 08-29-2023 motswari_life " target="_blank" class="post_link"> Our guests enjoyed an epic sighting this morning as they trailed one of the highly mobile Vuyela males. The lion seemed to be heading directly towards the area in which the wild dogs had made a kill, evidenced by the vultures circling above in the distance. RE: Lions of Timbavati - RookiePundit - 08-30-2023 (08-18-2023, 11:21 PM)PumpkinCat Wrote: Inbreeding in the Greater Kruger area has been ongoing among lions for decades, and I think this is the result of a deeper complex problem. It's very sad, because for many years these lions would have had no choice in the matter as the gates were closed off. Occasionally we do get to see an exchange between lions in Greater Kruger and Kruger Park, but it's not happening often enough to create healthier genetics among these western prides. There is probably multiple reasons why this is, and it could have to do with low prey density near the borders, or the borders themselves are not open and accessible enough for these prides and coalitions. What we do know is that there is still a clear separation between the two sides, and it is still affecting the lions to this day. Not a unique phenomenon, for example deer on opposite side of former Iron Curtain still do not cross to the opposite despite the impenetrable border with barbed wire etc. is not there since the end of Cold War, the herds still move like nothing changed (researched on Bohemian forest population). Although predators should in theory be more adaptable having to follow their prey to some extent. No, young Sark Breakaway male, their son, idk who are 2 other males. RE: Lions of Timbavati - Tonpa - 08-31-2023 Next to Balule there is a private reserve called Tshukudu camp with a 2 lion coalition called Tshukudu males. One of them was apparently killed in a 1v1, but not clue who against, Sark Breakway is a likely suspect since he's in the area RE: Lions of Timbavati - Mwk85 - 08-31-2023 Monwana male with the bad leg climbing a tree to get at the remains of a leopards kill. Wow, he gave a lot for that leg. Incredible jaw strength the way he was hanging by that kill. RE: Lions of Timbavati - Potato - 09-01-2023 RE: Lions of Timbavati - Horizon - 09-01-2023 wildfreelions Edited•2h A great recent sighting of the injured Monwana male as he climbs a tree to claim his hard-earned impala kill. A powerful reminder that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
