RE: Size comparisons - GrizzlyClaws - 12-17-2015

Just wondering what would be the skull size of a tiger with the super massive 6.5 inches long and 2 inches wide upper canine?

A liger with 16.75 inches skull got 5.5 inches upper canine. And the liger skull and canine are replica casts.

I'm really looking forward to that Tigerluver.

@brotherbear, it is the paper in the first post in Proboscidae thread. The size comparisons are in the first post as well.

Oh, I misunderstood. But yes, those "elephant" comparisons are fantastic. I thought that you were referring to the prehistoric bear comparisons we had discussed at an earlier date. My mistake.

RE: Size comparisons - tigerluver - 01-01-2016

@brotherbear. I'll have the prehistoric bears comparisons made toward the end of January hopefully. I'm booked until then, sorry about the delay. With it, I'll have a description of the robusticity of the two short faced giant bears.

Much appreciated Tigerluver. And if I may be so bold, I have just one more request. Could you give us a Kodiak bear and a polar bear standing face-to-face?

By the way, if someone have special comparisons that would like to see, just ask me, and if I have the data (real measurements and images from side view), you will have it. Joking

Edit: I will post the first images tonight, so, keep an eye in this new topic.

I would like to see a repost of the American grizzly and Amur brown bear comparison. I am also interested in wild bovine comparisons such as bison, yak, and gaur.

I really love your work tigerluver. To put this in my language ( old-school-American )... Ursus arctos middendorffi ( Kodiak bear ) stands 4 feet 10 inches high and weighs 1,499 pounds. Ursus maritimus tyrannus, the giant intermediate bear between the brown and polar bear stood 5 feet 6 inches high and weighed roughly 1,874 pounds. The giant South American short-faced bear Arctotherium angustidens measured 5 feet 11 inches high and weighed roughly 2,425 pounds. Arctodus simus, the giant North American short-faced bear stood slightly higher at 6 feet 1 inch and weighed the same as his South American cousin at roughly 2,425 pounds.
Judging from the size given for the Kodiak bear ( 1500 pounds ), I am guessing that these are the "normal maximum" sizes ?

I am hoping that this topic has not been completely forgotten. I find such comparisons to be interesting in ways which I find myself unable to put into words.   Happy

Awesome work Tigerluver.

RE: Size comparisons - Pckts - 04-19-2016

I don't think all of these were added, may as well put them all in one place.
