RE: Lion pictures and videos - Gamiz - 07-07-2016 This toothless old Warrior couldent believe his eyes when he stumbled across a dead Giraffe with no-one around except the flies. Little did he know that the owners had gone for a drink and were on their way back from the water hole, they took exception to his presence and the game was on .However He won the day and they left him in peace to enjoy his meal. RE: Lion pictures and videos - Pckts - 07-14-2016 That wasn't his kill, it died and they removed it out of the water so it wouldn't pollute it. There are more images on one of the other threads, I forget. He got a hold of the hyena and gave it a good whooping. Edit: Here it is http://wildfact.com/forum/topic-other-male-lion-coalitions-from-masai-mara?page=15 RE: Lion pictures and videos - Tshokwane - 07-19-2016 The main man at Nossob Camp, and also my favourite lion in the Kgalagadi. RE: Lion pictures and videos - Tshokwane - 07-27-2016 Gerhard Steenkamp Wildlife and Nature Photography: Mokara, a true natural leader. Brilliant temperament with don't mess with me attitude. And everyone knows this. Absolute no aggression, but keep your distance and don't enter his personal space. Whether you're a human, family member or intruding male lion, it doesn't matter. In January 2016 he successfully defended his pride against three male lions at Rooiputs waterhole, 24 km north of Twee Rivieren in the Kgalagadi. *This image is copyright of its original author
RE: Lion pictures and videos - Gamiz - 07-27-2016 From Mara Lion Project The Mara Lion Project and Kenya Wildlife Service have recently conducted a 9 day collaring exercise. We are targeting sub-adult males as we want to investigate where these males disperse to when they leave their respective prides. We currently have very many sub males leaving their pride and then disappearing. Concurrently, we are seeing pride male coalitions having pride tenure for 4+ years which can lead to inbreeding. This tells us that dispersing young males might venture outside the protected areas where there is a high density of livestock, killing them which might result in retaliation attacks. This would mean that the male lions are killed before they are strong enough to come back to the protected areas and take over prides. This is very important to document for conservation purposes. With GPS collars, it is also possible to document human-lion conflicts. As you can see from the post-collaring photo, you can barely see the collar on the lion. We have also attached a leaflet explaining everything about the collars and the importance of them. *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author
RE: Lion pictures and videos - Pckts - 07-28-2016 They'd be good people to ask if they weighed the animals, I just emailed them. RE: Lion pictures and videos - Gamiz - 07-28-2016 The big cats of Meru are difficult to find and even more difficult to photograph due to the dense undergrowth which provides them with excellent cover. Occasionally you get lucky! Male lion. RE: Lion pictures and videos - Spalea - 07-28-2016 @Gamiz: About #536: Meru ! Mythical place... Where the Adamson couple studied the lions, breed the famous "Elsa" the lioness before they released her in the wild. From this story they wrote "Born free" and so on... In short, happy to know there is alway a park with some lions... This place suffered a lot from poaching during the end of the 1980s. Murder of Georg Adamson (August or September 1989) by these poachers armed from the conflicts there were in Somalia and Sudan... RE: Lion pictures and videos - Skybed - 07-28-2016 RE: Lion pictures and videos - Skybed - 07-28-2016 Regarding post #537 omg the poor guy is being murdered, that's is bloody sad! RE: Lion pictures and videos - Spalea - 07-28-2016 @Skybed: about #538: What a megapride ! I have counted 26 lions. Taking into account there was no fully adult male lions, this megapride must be close to 30 lions... Quite impressive ! |
