I definitely want to put this zoo on my bucket list, but I agree, the smaller zoos sometimes allow a much more intimate atmosphere.
I wanted to go check out the Al Ain Zoo in dubai when Im there next month but it's looking like I'm not going to make it.
It looks to be mostly uncovered and its going to be 110+ degrees while we are there and I don't think we'd be able to maintain our stamina throughout the massive zoo, plus its about an hour and a half away and it pretty much would take up most of our day, we are only there for 2 days so it's looking less and less likely.

An other quite original distribution of the hairs of the mane ! I would tend to believe there is a particular microclimate within the czech republic which favors the unusual manes... Nice photos in any case !

Interesting idea...
btw there is quite a lot of asiatic and barbary lions in czech republic. African lions are not that common. The reason is that the breeding of asiatic and barbary lions is financially supported by EU funds

17yo tigress Isabella killed by lions in 2009. She was around 100 kg and suffered from ill back legs. Both lions were injured during the fight and had to be treated by vet.
