Last week we went to Victoria, BC to attend meetings to further Nature Labs. It was winter. We had to try 3 times before being able to drive over, and wildlife was scarce. A week later, we return to full on spring. Ospreys returned, snow melted and bears out.
It's not even May and we've already seen 3 grizzlies and 8 black bears, including three cubs of the year. Bears are out. Bears are everywhere. They are where you least expect them. If you are remotely near bear country, do yourself a favour - carry bear spray. You might just save a life: a bear's...and your own.

Video doesn't work. All I can read is brown bear attacked lioness in beginning of news introduction inside of video.
But I know who they are, it was on the news before. They used to live together 20 years ago along with a dog. They were famous in Korean animal channel adn I used to watch it before (along with everland).
Zoo separated bear when he become adult since he was becoming aggressive and territorial. Bear broke the cage and entered to lion's cage and attacked her. Keeper separated with a tranquilizer gun after bear almost beat lioness. A problem was she was already 19~20 years old grandma lioness while bear was 11 years old young male brown bear. She died next day even though keepers and vet did medical cure on her.
Another problem was brown bear was so stressed and became aggressive due to living in a small cage. They were actually fine even though keepers opened their cage together. That is a problem in zoo along with not maintaining pure breed animals.
It was them when they used to live together in 2005.

Large male grizzly bear looking across the Gibbon River. The river is high and running fast and when the bear jumps in to cross he is carried nearly 100 yards downstream until he could get his feet down and walk out.

It doesn't matter how old a son is. Even big and strong he is always a small boy for his mother.
Grizzly Sow 815 and her 2+ years old male cub grazing along Obsidian Creek today. It was a nice warm sunny day which made it hard to get good photos but we had a nice time watching this pair hunting for grubs in the downed timber.
815 is a special bear to me, she was the first bear I saw with cubs the year I moved to Yellowstone, and I have often seen her and her various sets of cubs for the last 8+ years. She has had many names: Mini Mom (due to her small size), Obsidian Sow (because she is seen first every Spring along Obsidian Creek, and lately she has be known simply by her bear number, 815.

I am not sure if that was funny. Video made itself as funny, but translation was terrible. That animal program channel has many funny and interesting things. People in the world are probably known that animal channel for Everland story, tiger name Final 16 beating up all of male lions in Everland.
I think that bear-lioness-dog story has a more than that. Because I remember when lioness was the number 1 before. Anyway, they got along each other in last decade. I am not sure if bear has a short memory to not remembering her in 2014. Maybe he was stressed. Or he didn't cared.

I think emotion in animals is not that strong(compared to human), the basic instinct wins.. In worst cases mother lioness drop their weakest cub, or sometime they eat the dead cub.. unlike human they are not driven by emotions at that extent.
So bear driven by basic instinct (aggressive nature) does not care his relationship with Lioness in past, no emotion..

Sometimes even after a long winters nap, you still gotta take time to rest. Actually this guy had walked several miles and swam the river twice, not to mention posing for many photographers and visitors along the way. It was definitely time for a nap!

Yesterday I went out on my own to the Hayden Valley that just opened. I found three grizzly bears, including this one that walked right by my car. I barely had to time get a few shots and only could because I always have my camera in the seat next to me! The scars are likely from fighting with another bear.

Here are a couple more photos from yesterday of the grizzly bear. This is obviously when he decided to swim the river. He swam the first half and then right in the middle he stopped dunked his head and then came out and shook all over. It was an incredible sight to see. He then continued across the river and got out on the other side.

Grizzly Bear chasing a wolf in Yellowstone National Park
3 bears and 4 wolves came into eat on a bison carcass on the banks of the Lamar River it was the most exciting 6 hours I have spent in Yellowstone.
