His swelling seems to be going down now though & he’s being monitored by KWS so this is all good news.(05-28-2024, 04:36 PM)KM600 Wrote: Was just wondering, as it was reported that Oloimina stayed by Lorkulups side the entire time, what do vets do in that scenario? Do they just drive off the lion(s) that don’t need their help. I dont know if they figured out what caused it, but, my final guess is he most likely got bit by a snake. RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - Spalea - 05-29-2024 Info about Lorkulup: Lorkulup diagnosis report Yesterday, we received reports that the lion was in a bad headspace — quite literally. He was having difficulty breathing and his face was very swollen. All signs indicated an adverse reaction to a poisonous bite. Given Lorkulup’s compromised respiration, it was too risky to anaesthetise him for treatment. Instead, our SWT/KWS Mara Mobile Vet Unit delivered anti-inflammatory medication remotely via dart gun. The team recovered the darts while Lorkulup rejoined his brother, who was waiting a few metres away. Dr Njoroge is optimistic that he will make a complete recovery, but the team will continue to monitor him. We operate six Mobile Veterinary Units and an aerial Sky Vets initiative in partnership with the KWS. These teams provide rapid, in-the-field treatment across Kenya, saving hundreds of wild lives each year. RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - Mwk85 - 05-29-2024 Anti-inflammatory medicine did its job. He was with members of the Rongai Pride during this sighting. RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - Mwk85 - 05-29-2024 Oloshipa with the Maji ya Fisi Pride and two cubs. There were four other cubs in addition to these two earlier this year but I'm not sure if those four are still alive or not. RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - T_Ferguson - 05-30-2024 This is good news tentatively. Let's hope it stays looking better. RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - T_Ferguson - 06-01-2024 Well, this isn't great now. Broken Jaw? Puss on lip? What the hell happened to the poor boy. SUSPICIOUS… RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - Duco Ndona - 06-01-2024 Probably just a researcher or stafmember or something like that. No reason for conspiracies. RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - LyonLover - 06-01-2024 (06-01-2024, 06:16 PM)Duco Ndona Wrote: Probably just a researcher or stafmember or something like that. On their Facebook it says they are currently living in Manhattan, New York in the USA. And seems like from some of his posts that he’s a college professor that teaches in the states and he’s going home for the summer as college semesters are over and its summer break in the USA. Im not trying to stir up any speculation that this individual in particular is doing something illegal, in fact I think he’s helping by bringing these pictures to the public’s attention, but I just find it weird that he’s allowed to be in Maji Ya Fisi area when it’s supposed to be closed off entirely to humans. How many other people wander through there at night unbeknownst to rangers ? Are you the same Lion Lover from the page on Social Media... Louis, you have the lawsuit against KWS thays going to mediation? I've heard of certain "crazies" riding though on motor-bikes with pangas and bright lights at night. They ride up on lions and shine bright lights in their eyes in order to disorient them so they can slash and run with their pangas. How they do this in the quiet dead of night without any lodges or guides hearing is beyond me? I mean in the Mara at night, you'd have to be deaf not to hear a motor-bike running at night. RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - Mwk85 - 06-02-2024 Lorkulup is alive and appears to have been potentially mating with a Maji ya Fisi Pride lioness. Oloshipa was with him as well, the right side of his mouth doesn't look great but it doesn't appear to be oozing puss or anything of that nature. I tried to link two posts from Instagram but they wouldn't load correctly for some reason but you can find them on lionhub101's Instagram page. Edit: Twitter link added that has content. RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - T_Ferguson - 06-02-2024 That still looks like a kick to the face to me. If other reports are correct, that is a VERY bad broken jaw. Are there any other records of a lion having such a badly broken jaw and surviving long term? I could be wrong, but I'm not really seeing any signs of a broken jaw in this shot. An eventual shot of him eating or not being able to do so will certainly determine what condition his jaw is in. |
